"Why didn't I ask for directions?"
Luke's POV:
"What the hell did you just say to me...?" She whispered, completely shocked that I--well, Grace-- actually stood up to her.
Oh, crap. Would Grace get in trouble for what I said? Would I get in trouble? I kept forgetting that I was in little Gracie's body.
I wasn't shocked at what I had said. I was shocked because I had forgotten that I had made Grace say that to Veronica.
Staring at me, apart from Veronica who had completely stopped what she was doing, was Grace's dad. It was hard to tell what he was thinking. His face held both amusement and disappointment. This situation was completely different from my family, my actual family. As soon as I tried to speak up, I'd get yelled at and grounded. I wasn't sure how Grace's dad was so patient and calm.
Laughing in the background was Aaron. I'm pretty sure he didn't completely understand what I had said to Veronica, but he knew it was bad, and that's what made it funny.
Both anxious and curious at what punishment I could get for saying that, I continued, "You heard me. You need to stop acting like a b--"
"That's enough, Grace," said dad.
I shrugged, "I was just going to say that she needed to stop acting like a butt. A mean butt."
Aaron was laughing even harder now, "A...butt...ha!"
Veronica looked at dad, speaking up, "You're just going to let her treat me like this?" Shock still showed on her face.
Grace's dad looked back and forth at Veronica and I. He wasn't sure what to do.
"Uh," he scratched his head. "G-go to your room, Gracie?" He looked confused, as if he'd never punished someone before.
Wait, I'm in the little nerd's body. Of course she's never gotten in trouble, not at school, not at home. Somehow, Aaron stopped his crazy laughing and looked surprised. Had Grace's dad never punished them before?
I shrugged, amused now at Veronica's rage at how dad punished me.
"Okay, sure," I said, walking up the stairs. Fuck. This was my first time in this house. I was completely lost and had no idea what room was "my" room.
Why didn't I ask for directions?
