"What crawled up your underwear and died?"
Luke's POV:
I was still standing in that mirror, staring at who I was. I was little Gracie. Of all people in this world, both females and males, I just so happened to be in that nerd's body; believe me, there was nothing good about my current situation, at all.
Okay, okay. Boobs. The only good part about this. I'm a teenage boy. What can I say?Interrupting me, Grace's--my dad--said, "Uh, okay, Gracie. Well, I invited Veronica over to welcome you home. She'll be here any minute." He smiled kindly. Wait, who's Gracie? Oh, right. That's me. I have to get used to this, until I can figure out a way to change back into my normal body.
I looked at him, confused, "Who's Veronica?" Oops, was I supposed to pretend that I knew her? Did Grace know her? This is so confusing.
Aaron's tiny voice spoke up, "She's dad's girlfriend, 'member, Grace?"
I nodded, pretending to remember. Where was Grace's mom, though? Everyone at school thought she had the most perfect family background.
The little boy then got on his toes and reached up to me. He whispered, "she's real ugly and mean, though." He giggled.
Grace's dad didn't lose his temper when he heard Aaron say this. This is the complete opposite of what happens in my house.
Their dad simply said, "Come on, now, Aaron. Don't be mean. You could hurt her feelings." He explained in such a calm manner that amazed me.
Before Aaron could respond, the doorbell rang. The little boy quickly ran to the door, excited to be able to open in. In entered a woman, wearing the shortest black dress I had ever seen and obvious breast implants. They looked like lumpy bags were strapped under her shirt on her chest. Realizing who it was, Aaron's facial expression quickly changed from an excited one to a disgusted one.
She pushed past him and purposely bounced her plastic boob bags as she walked to dad.
"Philip! It's nice to see you!" She said, way too excitedly. Ignoring both Aaron and I, she started kissing him. It wasn't just a peck on the cheek, it looked like she was trying to suck the soul out of him. Aaron and I both made disgusted faces at each other and looked away.
"Now, come on, Veronica. The kids are here," he stopped her. He definitely looked embarrassed about what had happened.
She pouted but left him alone.
He then looked at her, then at me, signaling her to greet me. She nodded, annoyed, and said, dully, "Hi, Grace." This is what Grace's dad was going out with? I hadn't even known the man, but he seemed to be into the opposite type of women-- nice, natural, and not rude.
I replied with a simple "hello," while Aaron pouted, waiting for her to greet him. Cue a silent, awkward moment where we all realized that she wasn't going to greet him.
Dad nodded sadly, then said, "I'll go get some snacks for us," then went to the kitchen, wherever that was.
Veronica looked at me, still ignoring Aaron, then smiled sarcastically, "I'm soo glad you're back." Cue the silent moment where I stayed quiet because I had no idea what to say. She continued, "I had your dad all to myself, though, so I can't say that you being in the hospital was a bad thing!" She giggled.
Was she being serious or was she joking? This lady needs to learn both manners and how to tell a good joke.
I replied, "Uh, right..." What else was I supposed to say? Is this how she normally treated Grace and her little brother? How did their dad even meet her? Was he really that desperate?
She continued with the questions. "So, did you settle in okay? I slept over in your room, while you were gone. I hope you don't mind, though," she said, not giving me a chance to respond to her question.
I tried to respond, "Well, I just got--"
"I'm thinking of remodeling this house," she looked around, interrupting me.
What? There was no way anyone could be this annoying and rude.
"But it's our house, not yours," Aaron spoke up.
She rolled her eyes, "It won't be when I marry your dad." She said, finally acknowledging the little boy's presence.
"We won't let you do that," he said, bravely, referring to him and I-- well, Grace.
"Well, I will. After, I'll move in, of course. Because you two will just mess up our marriage, I'll send you two off to some boarding school," she smiled in an obvious fake way. I reminded me of my mom, actually.
How could she be so soulless? Oh, I get it now. When she kissed dad and tried to suck out his soul, it was because she needed one. It all makes sense, now.
What was wrong with this woman?
She's just as bad as my mom. I've been treated like this my whole life, and there was no way I was going to let this lady with lumpy boob bags strapped to her chest treat me like this.
I looked her straight in the eyes and said, "What the hell crawled up your underwear and died?"
She looked at me, shocked. As soon as I had said this, Grace's dad walked in the room, holding a tray of snacks. His face also had a shocked expression.
Oops?
