"You have got to be kidding me."
Luke's Point of View:
Oh my god. Where is he? He can't be gone. My little buddy, my soldier, my baby maker.
"Grace, are you okay?" The man looked at me, with a concerned expression on his face.
How am I okay when I lost the most important thing to a guy?
"No," I said, panic in my voice. I made a hand movement to bring him closer, and said, "I have a girl private part." I whispered the last part.
He widened his eyes, and he awkwardly coughed, "Um, that's right. That's what girls have."
"But w-why?" My throat still hurt, from just waking up, and I was feeling more and more tired by the minute. It couldn't be true. I checked my pants again, and almost screamed once more... It was definitely true.
"I—" he spoke, but got interrupted by the little boy.
"It's what girls have, Grace. You're a girl, and I'm a boy," he explained, then gave me a wide smile. This couldn't be possible. I wasn't a girl-- for the thousandth time. I. Was. A. Guy!
Right before I could speak, the door opened. A young nurse came in, she looked to be about 18, so she just had to be some kind of helper around the hospital. She looked mad at first, but then she smiled at me.
"Hi, Grace. I'm Nurse Emma," she introduced herself. I just lightly waved at her.
. . .
The man and the little boy had gone out of the room to call someone named 'Charlie.' I had no idea who that was but they both insisted that I knew her.
"... You'll also have to take therapy classes, to help you move your legs again," she explained, and then squealed, "Then we you can walk again, we can go shopping and out for lunch!" The young nurse Emma had been talking for the past ten minutes. She had this idea going on in her head that we were going to be the best of friends... It was really weird. Was she like this to all the guy patients here?
"After all this is done, I'll show you this really cute boy next door: Lucas Evans." Woah, hold on a second. Lucas? Lucas Evans? That's me!
"I'm Lucas," I told her.
She quickly shook her head, "No, Grace. Lucas is this jerk next door, he's a patient here too." I don't think she's allowed to talk about her patients like this... right?
"I want to see this, uh-- Lucas," I asked her. If I saw this guy who had my name, maybe I could answer all these questions: Why do they keep calling me 'Grace'— when my name is 'Luke'— and why is my little buddy gone?
Emma eagerly nodded, "Only when you have Dr. Ross' permission to get up. That reminds me, I probably should go now." She stood up from one of the hospital chairs in the room, and started walking towards the door.
I suddenly had the urge to... pee. What the hell was I supposed to do? I had absolutely no idea.
"Uh, Emma...," I trailed off. What are you supposed to say when you suddenly lose your little buddy and have absolutely no idea how to urinate in bed? You see, when I woke up from this coma, I suddenly realized that I had a... female private part... and now I don't know how to pee. Can you please explain to me what the hell is going on? Nope.
"Yes?" She turned around, and looked at me questionably.
"I-I need to pee."
"There's a tube connected to you, so you don't have to worry about a thing," she shrugged, and left the room. Wait a minute-- a tube? What the hell?
You have got to be kidding me, Emma.
