As we read the Book of Acts, we can see that the apostles were overflowing with generosity. In addition to sharing the message of Jesus, they worked hard to eradicate poverty by selling their belongings and giving the money to people who needed it.
"Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need."
(Acts 2:45)These selfless acts of giving created large amounts of followers. More and more people turned to Christianity through the generosity of the apostles. Hardly anyone in the early days of the apostles was poor or in need, since those who had lots of money gave it to the less fortunate.
"Do not withhold Good from those who deserve it when it is in your power to act."
(Proverbs 3:27)Don't forget that nothing you have is truly your own. All of your possessions have been given to you by Jesus. Instead of hoarding blankets, for example, in case the weather gets extremely cold, give them to people who have none and are struggling to keep warm. By giving your possessions to those in need, you are following the example of Jesus and the apostles. Jesus loves these generous acts, and will soon return to you what you have given because of them.
"He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done."
(Proverbs 19:17)When you give to others, don't forget the main reason for your donations. Remember that you are doing the work of Jesus. Tell those you help why you are helping and talk to them about the Good News of Jesus. Giving to others without acknowledging how this is the work of Jesus takes away the point of helping completely. Don't allow people to thank only you. Instead, allow them to thank Jesus for helping them through you.
You can create a numbers upon numbers of followers simply by providing them with food, warm clothing, and the Good News of Jesus Christ. What are you waiting for? Go out today and give to people! Help the people around you in any way you possibly can, and don't forget to teach them about Jesus!
"Do not say to your neighbor, 'Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow' when you now have it with you."
(Proverbs 3:28)Hey! If you learned a lot from this lesson, you can share this message with the people you give to! Thanks for reading to this point!
