Chloe's POV:

I pulled up to the dance studio and parked my car in a parking spot.

"Go ahead and grab your dance bag and head inside, Clara. I'll be with you in a minute." I said quietly, trying to keep my voice steady.

"But Chlo-" Clara began.

"Clara, just do as I say!" I interrupted.

Clara didn't say anything else, but got out and slung her dance bag over her shoulder before shutting the passenger side door and heading towards the studio.

I buried my face into my hands and let the tears I had been holding back flow freely down my face. I didn't care that the salt burnt the wound in my cheek. I didn't care that my eyes were burning from crying so much.

I just didn't care anymore.

I hadn't expected my mother to be back so soon. I was hoping she wouldn't be home for at least a few more days. But that clearly wasn't the case.

I'm just glad I went into the kitchen before Clara did. God only knows what she would have done to her.

I took a few deep and shaky breaths in an attempt to calm myself down. While I counted my breaths, my phone buzzed beside me. I grabbed it and looked at the text message.

Tyler🙇🏻: what's a pirate's favorite letter?

Well, that's the most random text message I've ever received.

Me: um R?

Tyler🙇🏻: No it's C! You know, cause they sail the SEA!

I smiled at his lame joke that he clearly thought was funny. Bless his soul that child.

Me: you're lame and a dork😂

Tyler🙇🏻: but I'm the best lame dork

Me: whatever helps you sleep at night.

Even though that was the lamest text I had ever received, Tyler had no idea how much that helped me.

"Chloe! Oh my gosh, what happened?! Are you okay?!" Gianna asked worriedly when I walked inside the studio.

"I'm okay, G. Though I wouldn't mind you fixing me up." I said lightheartedly.

Gianna grabbed the first aid kit hidden behind the front desk and walked around to me. She sat me down before opening the kit and grabbing a disinfectant wipe and a large bandaid.

"I'm sorry but this is gonna sting." Gia said.

"Do what you've gotta do." I answered, gripping the side of the bench I was sitting on for support.

Gianna gently set the wipe on my cheek and a slight sting settled in, causing me to clench my teeth and suck in a breath. I held the side of the bench tighter, making my knuckles turn almost as white as snow.

Gianna quickly finished cleaning the wound and opened up the bandage to place on my cheek. She gently pushed it to make sure it would stay in place.

"Done. You're all good." Gia said as she threw the trash away.

I stood up and smiled before hugging her. "Thank you. You're the best."

"I know, you don't have to remind me." She answered sassily.

I laughed before asking her about Clara. "Did she make it into her ballet class on time?"

"All taken care of, Chlo." She said. "You really should care more for yourself. I know that Clara needs you, but you need to watch yourself as well."

I sighed, knowing full well that she was completely right. "I know. But I'd rather suffer than see Clara get hurt."

Gianna sighed before making her way back to her chair behind the front desk and sat down. "Your pointe class started 15 minutes ago. I've got the key to Studio D. It's empty at the moment. You've got about 45 minutes before Advanced Tap."

She opened a drawer in the desk and grabbed a key before shutting it back. She tossed the key in my direction and I reached a hand up and caught it. "Thanks, G."

Gianna winked before waving her hand to shoo me off. I gave a small smile in her direction before heading off down the hallway with my dance bag over my shoulder.

I passed the other three studios that were occupied before arriving to Studio D. I slid the key into the doorknob and gave it a slight twist. A satisfying click sounded, letting me know that it had unlocked. I pulled the key out before opening the door and slipping inside.

I dropped my bag onto the floor at the front of the room. I slipped the jacket and track pants that I had put on earlier off, leaving me in my crop top and shorts. I grabbed my tan jazz shoes from my bag and slipped them on my feet. I took my phone from the side pocket of the bag and headed over to the stereo. I slipped the end of the attached aux cord into the headphone jack of my phone before selecting a song and heading out to the middle of the studio floor.

The beginning piano of the song,"My Immortal" by Evanescence, softly filled the studio. As the notes were played out, I began to dance.

I danced my feelings out, pouring my heart into every step, leap, and turn that I executed.
My heart seemed to beat to the music, as if my body was becoming one with the movement and notes.

And I knew.

Deep down.

That I would be

Okay.
