"Will?!", I asked in amazement, stunned at his appearance.
He looked disheveled. His sandy blonde hair was dirty, and his eyes were clouded. He also smelled strongly of alcohol. Had he been drinking?
Will looked up at me, a strong look of regret across his face. "Kenny, I messed up.", He said in a whisper, the stench of beer fanning across my face as he spoke.
"Will?", I asked worriedly. "What did you do?"
At my question, he turned away and began shaking his head, muttering unintelligible things under his breath. I couldn't even begin to sort out my emotions. At first I had been relieved that he was alive, but now, I didn't know what to think.
"Will! Snap out of it!", I told him forcefully, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him inside the mansion. "What happened?", I asked again, searching his drunken eyes for answers.
"I'm sorry, Kenny. So, so sorry.", He told me, swaying as he tried to walk back outside.
No. He wasn't leaving like that. I hadn't wasted a whole week of worrying just for him to walk away. "Get back in here.", I ordered him, pulling him back inside.
I could tell that he was about to pass out by the way his eyes slowly closed and how he moved like he was being weighed down. Judging by his appearance and smell, he had more alcohol inside his bloodstream then there was in a tap at a bar. He'd practically explode if he neared an open flame. I should get him into a room before he loses consciousness.
"So, sorry, Kenny. Sorry.", He began to mutter repeatedly, his face laced with sadness.
I began to drag his half-conscious body up the stairs, quickly concluding that he wouldn't make it up a single flight of stairs, let alone four. I'd have to put him in a room on the bottom floor. I began to pull him down a corridor, opening a room that was six doors away from the foyer.
The room was mid-sized, containing a couch, flat screen television, and a gaming system. The couch would have to function as a bed for now.
"Lie down.", I instructed him, guiding him toward the couch. Will sloppily collapsed onto the couch, still muttering about how he was sorry.
Running my fingers through my hair, I tried to figure out what I was going to do. Jack would be here any second, and Will would be in dreamland soon enough. I would just have to deal with him when I came back from the date. There was no other way. I just hope I could act normal while on the date. My adrenaline was sky-high at this point, and it would take a whole lot to calm me down.
Just as Will began to lose consciousness, I heard the doorbell.
Jack.
I rapidly left the room, closing the door to the room where Will was in. I studied the door so I could remember what room I had stashed him in. It was a dark red color. Six doors to the right of the foyer. I don't know what I would do if I forgot where I put him.
With that in my mind, I left the corridor rapidly, and entered the foyer. I opened the door, finding Jack on my doorstep. He was wearing his classic leather jacket, a bouquet of white roses in his arms and an adorable smile on his face.
"Hey, Ken.", He said, his blue eyes shining with happiness.
"Hey, Jack.", I replied, returning his smile. Will may be a wreck, but Jack was here, and I had to accept that. I couldn't let Will ruin our night, no matter how much I wanted to stay by Will's side, or how worried I was.
"For you.", He told me, handing me the roses.
"Thank you so much. I'm going to put these in my room real quick, okay?", I told him, flashing him a thankful smile before heading up the staircase.
