Friday 3:00 pm

I WOKE UP LATE in the morning and had been studying for the whole day in my room. Typical I put my phone on DND when I'm doing homework or studying but for some reason this time I forgot to so I had nobody else to blame for the slight heart attack I had when seeing Angel's name appear on my phone while she called.

My eyes stared at the call for a few seconds before reluctantly picking it up and answering it
"Hello?" I answered nervously as I pressed speaker so I could continue writing my notes.

"Wow, I'm surprised you answered," Angel said with a slight snicker.

"I almost didn't" I replied telling her the truth

"Ouch, how could someone so tiny be so cruel"

"OKAY-" Angel cut me off with her laughter. "I'm kidding I'm kidding, are you busy right now? I want to see you." Hearing those last words made my stomach do backflips and I almost forgot how to talk.

"Um, I'm uh studying..but I guess I'm due for a break" I said softly feeling a bit shy from Angel's words. "That's what I like to hear!" I could hear Angel smiling from over the phone, "Meet me at the cafe in 30"

"Finee" I sighed dramatically which made her giggle. "See you soon. Put a bow in your hair" Angel said hanging up before I could ask her about the random request.

"Guess I'm wearing a bow," I said to myself sliding back in the rolling chair to get up.

I pondered on what I should wear while looking at the weather, it was forecasted to be in the low 70s with a breeze. Walking to my small closet I pulled out a long brown skirt that reached my feet, a fitted white shirt, and added pulled back some of my hair into a half up half down before adding the bow in the back. I took two strands of my hair and pulled them out to be front pieces, added some rings then brushed my teeth.

Time seemed to slow quicken as I found myself hurrying to finish up. I threw on some lip gloss and filled in my eyebrows before spraying myself with perfume and put on some chunky sandals.

"I'll be back," I told Sugar but she grabbed my skirt with her teeth to get my attention. "What?" I looked down at my bunny in confusion before I realized her bowl was empty.

"Girl you're so big-backed" I shook my head as I took her empty bowl and filled it up with pellets and lettuce. Once I set her bowl down in her pen Sugar went right to her bowl fully uninterested in what I was doing. "You use me" I snickered as I left my dorm room and made my way to the cafe.

The walk wasn't bad thanks to the weather not being unreasonably hot but with each step I felt my anxiety build up until ai finally got to the cafe. I took a deep inhale as I grabbed the cafe door and exhaled when I walked in. Angel was already sitting down in the back at a small table for two. Slowly I walked to where she was, Angel was on her phone so she didn't notice me until I sat down across from her.

Angel looked absolutely perfect, her hair was freshly done, her makeup looked great and her teeth practically sparkled when she smiled at me. "You look cute" Angel complimented me. My breathing hitched and I started picking at my skirt, "w-why did you want me to wear a bow?" I asked wanting to slam my head against the table for stuttering. Angel took notice of my nervous and gave me a reassuring look, "I like it when you wear bows" She shrugged

"You see me with a bow every game day" I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"Exactly" She nodded taking a sip of her drink, "anyways, are you gonna tell me why you've been avoiding me like a baby daddy needing to pay child support?" Angel played with her coffee cup.

I chuckled at her analogy. "Did I do something wrong?" Angel asked now looking at me. This time her question was more sincere and I looked down at the table.

It's okay Luna, just talk. Say how you feel, you can do this. Once again I took a deep breath and let it out, "um..well I thought—feel like you're only being nice to me because of what happened..like we're only talking because you pity me since we've never talked or even made eye contact before the whole basketball thing"

Angel looked at me but I couldn't read how she was feeling. The silence felt deafening even though we were in a cafe full of people. "I'm sorry" Angel apologized. I was confused but stayed quiet to let her finish.

"I never wanted you to feel that way, if anything I wanted the opposite" Angel sighed to herself, "I know we've never spoken before the whole situation happened. Honestly I be so focused on my game and studies and don't really worry about other people which can be my downfall sometimes..."

I took in what she said, it didn't seem like bullshit or an excuse. I believe Angel and a weight felt like it was lifted off of my shoulders.

"If you'd allow it, I'd love to get to know you more. I really enjoy talking to you and spending time with you" Angel added with a small smile.

I smiled back and nodded, "I'd like that"

For two hours Angel and I sat in the cafe filling each other in on our backstories, our likes and dislikes, favorite artists, favorite movies, and anything we could think of. I don't think I've spoken to anyone this much about myself besides Yaslin and Scarlet of course.

"What's your sexuality?" Angel asked as I took a sip of my caramel frappe which I choked on from the topic. "Damn, slow down it's not going anywhere" Angel joked whilst handing me a napkin.

I rolled my eyes at her playfully as I patted my chest a few times, "Im a lesbian." I've never been one to shy away from telling people my sexuality, it's not a secret. Angel's eyes widened a little at the information, "Really? How did you know you were a lesbian?"

"Since I was making my Barbie scissors and kiss" I snickered. Angel's hand covered her mouth as she tried not to laugh, "girl you nasty" she giggled

"You're straight right?" I asked to test the waters. Angel hesitated to answer whilst she stirred her coffee, "I'm not sure actually"

"Are you questioning?"

"Yes" She nodded, "I have these thoughts about women but have never acted on them...I'm kinda scared"

I nodded understandingly. "It can be nerve-wracking, but you never know what you're missing until you try it" I shrugged

Angel looked at me with a smile, "Yeah you're right" She nodded

I was glad I went to the cafe to talk to Angel instead of avoiding her. It made me feel better about our friendship or whatever we are right now plus I got to learn a lot about Angel. I felt myself smiling almost the whole time we were talking. By the time we left the cafe and Angel had to go to practice.

"We should do this again sometime" Angel smiled as she held the door open for me to walk out of the cafe. "Yeah, I enjoy talking to you" I smiled lightly whilst looking down.

"You don't take this off do you?" Angel questioned while touching the necklace she got me. I watched it sparkle in the sunlight, "No I don't" I said shaking my head.

"Good" Angel smiled wider, "I gotta go but text me okay?"

I nodded still smiling, "Okay, have fun at practice"

Angel pulled me into a tight hug, "Bye Luna"

I froze for a second but quickly hugged her back before pulling away, "Bye Angel"
