Maxon and I have been king and queen for about 2 years now, and so far, everything has gone smoothly. Tomorrow is Maxon’s 21st birthday, and I still have a party to plan.

“I don’t know if I have enough time to do this,” I groaned, sitting in the dining room with all of my plans in front of me.

Thankfully, Maxon had been in meetings with advisors all day, so he didn’t have any idea of what I was up to.

“Your Majesty, are you ready to go over final plans for Maxon’s party?” Lucy asked me.

“I think so, Lucy. I don’t want anything to be overly extravagant, but I want him to have the best, you know?” I said to her

“I do know, miss,” Lucy said. “Is the party for family only?”

“Yes, family only. Maxon isn’t too fond of big parties, especially when he’ll be the center of attention all night,” I said and laughed.

“What are you having as far as food?” Lucy asked me.

“Nothing major except snack food at the party itself, but there will be a big dinner here in the dining hall before the party starts.” I said.

“As for decorations?” Lucy prompted me.

“Cake, obviously; balloons, streamers, and lots of presents,” I smiled.

“What’s the cake going to look like?” she asked.

“Three or four tiers with chocolate cake that’s layered with chocolate buttercream and iced with peanut butter icing--Maxon’s favorite,” I said.

“Sounds delicious,” Lucy said and laughed.

    “It is,” I said.

Just then, I felt a sharp pang of nausea in my stomach. “Miss, are you alright?” Lucy asked me.

“Um,” was all I was able to say before I got up and sprinted towards the bathroom.

After I finished, I stood up and washed my hands and face at the sink. I then looked over and saw that Lucy was holding a box in her hands.

Upon further inspection, I realized that the box was for a pregnancy test.

“Lucy, I don’t think I’m…” I said, pushing my hair out of my face.

“Please, just humor me and take it,” she said to me as she handed me the box.

“Okay,” I sighed as I walked back into the bathroom and followed the instructions on the box.

I waited for about seven minutes before taking a deep breath and picking up the test. It took me a minute to register the results, but once I really looked at it, I saw the little pink plus sign.

    “Well?” Lucy asked me.

“I’m pregnant,” I said to her.

“That’s wonderful! When will you tell Maxon?”

“Probably at the party tomorrow night,” I told her, pressing my hand against my stomach.

    “Why not now?” she asked.

“He’s been in meetings with advisors all day, I don’t want to interrupt him,” I said quietly.

“Are you excited?” Lucy asked, handing me the bag that had the test in it.

“Why are you giving me this?” I asked her.

“You should wrap it in a box and give to Maxon as his birthday gift. See how long it takes for him to figure out what it is,” Lucy said to me.
