The next morning, Maxon was up before I was, and I heard him shuffling around the room.

“What are you doing, hon?” I asked as I sat up. In that moment, I felt a wave of dizziness rush over me.

“I was closing the curtains, the sun was in my eyes,” Maxon said before looking back at me.

“Oh, okay,” I said, cupping my hand over my mouth.

“You okay, darling?” he asked as he came up beside me and put his hand on my back.

“I don’t feel so good,” I said to him. I then got out of bed and ran across the room and into our bathroom.

Maxon followed behind me and held my hair away from my face as I threw up.

“Shh… Mer, it’s alright,” Maxon said, continuing to rub my back.

“I hate being sick,” I groaned, sitting up and wiping my mouth.

“Well, at least it’s only for a little while, right?” Maxon asked as he helped me stand up. I then put my head on his shoulder.

“Yeah, but still, three months can feel like a long time if I get sick every day,” I said tiredly.

“Do you want to go back to bed?” Maxon asked me.

“I would love to, but isn’t there something we have to do today?” I asked him.

“No, nothing major, and what we do have to do can be done while we’re in bed,” he said as he led me back to the bed. He then pushed a button that would signal a maid to our room.

“Morning, Your Majesty, how can I help you?” Lucy asked, coming in with one of Maxon’s advisors.

“Morning, Lucy, could you do me a favor?” Maxon asked her.

“Of course, what do you need?” she asked.

“In my office there are two folders that have paperwork in them, can you get them for America and I? She isn’t feeling well this morning so I thought we could do our work in here instead of our offices,” Maxon said to her.

“Of course, I’ll be right back,” Lucy said.

“Maxon, are we still having the budget meeting today?” the advisor asked.

“Uh, do you think it’s possible to move it to tomorrow?” Maxon asked, looking over at me.

“That shouldn’t be a problem. I’ll alert the rest of the group with the change,” he said.

“Thank you, you’re dismissed,” Maxon said quickly.

Then, Lucy returned with the folders. “Here you go, Your Majesty,” she said.

“Thank you, Lucy,” Maxon smiled at her.

He then handed me the folder that had my name on it. I noticed that mine wasn’t as full as his was.

“How come mine doesn’t have as much in it as yours?” I asked out of curiosity.

“Typically, my day is filled with meetings, which means more paperwork to fill out. Yours is just for a variety of different projects that we’re going to propose at one point or another. It’s okay that yours isn’t as full as mine,” Maxon explained to me.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to do more?” I asked him.

“I’m positive, and trust me, you won’t want to do more, my stuff tends to be confusing. And besides, once the baby’s here, you won’t want to have a lot to do,” Maxon said.
