3 Years Later...
I tied the bandana around my head tight, the black contrasting with the bright pink of my hair that fell around it,but matching the rest of the clothes I was wearing. My black leggings tucked into black converse, matching my over-sized Blink-182 shirt I had turned inside-out to hide the lettering. I looked like a wannabe ninja, but smaller.
"You look ridiculous,"Amity said dryly, her legs swinging over the edge of my bright blue bed as she tied her combat boots tighter around her ankles,"You look like a mental asylum patient who escaped, and they're going to cart you back."
"Not if they can't see me,"I said proudly, tugging at my shirt,"And what about you?You stand out like a sore thumb!"
Amity glanced down at her outfit. She was wearing a white t-shirt with little black crosses on it,a leather jacket with studs on the shoulders, skinny jeans, and combat boots.Okay, maybe not completely noticeable, but it wasn't as expertly camouflaged as I was,"No,I look like someone out for a nightly stroll, not a bank robber!"
"You're just jealous,"I mumbled, fiddling with the edge of my shirt,"What time is it?"
"11:34.She should be out by now."
I nodded, walking over to my tiny window that only had a view of the building beside it,and a little metal fire escape spiraling down to the concrete below us. I'm sure by now you've got the gist of what we're attempting here, but this isn't exactly the first time we had snuck out,it's just the first time we've done it while our mom was still in the building.Normally,if we're going out for the night,we wait for one when she is out as well, and spend the night trying to avoid all her bars of choice.
"Ill go first,"Amity said quietly, lifting the window glass slowly and locking it into place. The gap between the top and bottom of the window wasn't exactly a large one,but it was still big enough for us to go one at a time if we were quiet. Amity stuck one foot out, then another, and slid slowly until she felt the secure metal beneath her feet.
"Are you sure about this?"I questioned, looking back at my bed room door, unlocked, and my bed that had two piles of blankets stuffed under my comforter in the shape of my sister and I.
"Now?"Amity hissed, tilting her head back to look at me,"You're going to rethink this now?Your name is Juliet, you should be okay with balconies!"
I shrugged as she went back to wiggling herself farther out the window, until she was able to stand up fully, her head nearly hitting the next fire exit above us.Once she was out,she started to descend the stairs so I had room to get out as well.
It was slightly easier for me,since I was the shorter one and didn't really have to duck quite as much.Soon,I was standing beside her.
"I feel so bad ass,"Amity whispered,tip-toeing down the clanking metal stairs one by one until we were finally on the sidewalk beside our sleeping apartment building (Other than the couple in 4B who we were pretty sure never slept...).
Once down,it was all easy from there; just make it through town without anyone noticing us.
All the other times we had done this,it was more simple. We would meet up somewhere in town and drive from there to go do whatever in the hell it was collage-aged kids do when they're out at night.Mostly eat pizza and listen to Fall Out Boy.
By the time Amity and I were over half way there,I was really regretting my outfit choice. I was freezing, tired, and my feet hurt; not to mention the fact Amity was gripping about the fact that I should have worn a jacket, and swearing that she could feel my cold because of it. I told her twin telepathy didn't work that way,but she was deaf to my words.
