Chapter 1
Dancing. I have known how to since I was just a little kid. I have been to several dance classes and learned amazing moves. I am now in a dance crew called The Hideaways. They're like family to me, I have known them since I can remember. They were the ones I turned to when I lost my parents. They took care of me, but most of all, they taught me how to dance. Every Tuesday, and Thursday we go to a dancing competition club called Fire Dancing. I have always dreamed of competing in there. I just wanted one chance, just one. I could prove to them how much I have improved. One of these days I will get my chance. I just hope its soon.
"Come on guys, we gotta go!" Jake yelled. He was like a brother to me.
"Were coming! Geez, take a chill pill." I yelled. I put on a half shirt and some baggy sweats. I was helping Sam get ready. Actually its the other way around. She was helping me.
"Ok Sammy we seriously need to go before he comes and whoops our asses."
"Don't call me Sammy. Its Sam. Not Sammy...just Sam." I rolled my eyes and smiled. I grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the room after she changed.
We met the rest of the crew: John, Jake, Adam, Alec, and Delilah, down by the door.
"Alright, we're all here. Lets go." Sam said. Then we were off. Off to the club that is.

"Alright, alright, alright! Everybody, we have the best dance groups in town, here tonight! Who wants to see them strut their stuff!" The crowd cheered and hollered for the dancers to come on to stage.
"Lets get the first group of dancers on stage now!" The announcer said. The lights slightly dimmed and a spotlight was shown on to one person. The song Like A Boy by Ciara started playing and the person that was in the spotlight started moving their hands. As soon as the song got a beat, other hands and figures from behind the guy started pouring out. It was pretty good. I admired them and their work. They have been dancing since... I don't know when.
One day I just saw them on YouTube and I liked them. They were my inspiration to start dancing with other people in a group.
I watched as the group moved with the beat. It was magical-no, it was inspiring. When the song ended there were a couple other groups to go before it was our turn.
"Alexa," Jake stopped me. "Why don't you just, skip this one. Stay here."
"But, Jak-"
"No, your staying out of this one. Thats final." He walked towards the stage. The group gave me apologetic eyes and left with him. Why wont he let me go? He knew how much I have always wanted to go on that stage and dance with them. I moved towards the bar and sat down at a stool.
"Whats up Alexa?" The bartender asked me. I knew him fairly well too. Its a long story, so I'm just going to skip that for another time.
"Same as every other time. Jake still wont let me go up there." He handed me a cup of apple juice, my favorite juice of all time.
"You know how he gets about your safety, maybe he'll let you go up there this Thursday." I shrugged, maybe Timothy is right. Maybe, Jake will let me go this Thursday.
The dance ended and we left the club.
"How was it Alexa? Did I look good up there?" Sam joked.
"Nope, you looked like an idiot on drugs." Sam gasped.
"Did not!" She yelled.
"Did too!" I yelled back.
"Shut up already!" Alec and Jake said. Sam and I giggled. As we were walking we heard a scream. We immediately stopped and listened to where it came from. Then we heard it again. We followed it to an alley. Of all places, it had to be an alley.
"Alexa, Sam, stay here." We didn't argue. We stood there and watched as the group went down the alley.
After a couple minutes we heard one gunshot. One possibly fatal gunshot. Thats when we decided to run to where the accident had happened. Thats when I saw what I thought I would never see.
