A Lesson in Not-Poetry

Welcome to Not-Poetry 101
Say goodbye to all your poetic fun
Before you know it the course will be done, 
But hold your impatient horses, it's only just begun.

Not-poetry is poetry that isn't so by definition,
Common day literature is just a logical supposition,
Who said we have to always write and read by some tradition?
It's about time not-poetry made a swift literal transition.  

Now, a good non-poet should have too much sarcasm,
A quick wit that loves to lack enthusiasm,  
A mind that's full of poetry iconoclasm,
And irony the size of an open, endless chasm. 

There's no specific logic involved,
So in reality, there's not much to teach,
The true meaning of it remains to be solved,
And the fault is mine because of lack of speech.

It's more based on unbiased theory,
That there's more to write than the mundane,
To challenge all the poets weary,
To make ourselves sound insane.

I probably sound like a lunatic,
One of those professors who are a bit too eccentric,
And explaining certain stuff to me is hard 'cause I'm so thick,
But I'm sure my book so far is giving you a kick.

And though I hardly have a clue,
How I can really teach this to you,
I hope you will continue to see me through,
As I go on with this 'not-poetry' deja vu.
