Their are 2 types of Plains Zebra, the Grant's and the Chapman's Zebra that has pale, brown stripes that are between the black and white. The Grant's Zebra is far more common unlike its rarer cousin the Chapman's Zebra. Both species will bark, not neigh. The Grant's Zebra makes it home in Kenya and Tanzania, while the Chapman's Zebra is found in Zimbabwe. The herds of both species can be found together and like any herd of horses (and their cousins), the mare ( usually the oldest female) leads and the stallions job is to keep everyone together. Zebras have a powerful kick that can kill a predator. Mothers and daughters will form a close bond but when the daughter reach the age of 2, she can move to another herd or stay with hers. Males will often try to steal the mature females from another herd and by doing so he'll gain one (or more) more female in his herd.
