Drowning at dawn

Callie was a girl with long blonde hair a beautiful smile and a very brave heart. Callie went to a sleep away camp in the summer for 4 weeks. Her mom told her to beware of lake sharks, leeches, and moths. She did not question her mother.

Callie got on the bus the morning of July 13th 1990. The leaders came and collected their crew. When Callie settled into her cabin she checked the schedule. For each mining on the schedule it said polar dip 6:00am. Now, Callie seemed interested in this. So Callie asked her counsellor who could do this. The counsellor said, "Oh hunny, anybody can do that you just need to know how to swim." "I can swim!" Callie replied in a chipper voice. Callie went to go meet her cabin members. She met 5 other girls, Laura, Ellie, Violet, Carmen, and Lena. Callie already chose a favourite, Lena. For the first day there they got to choose a buddy for the buddy system. Everyone paired up except for Lena and Callie, so Callie went over to Lena and they paired up.

Their first activity of the day was a scavenger hunt in the woods. Callie was super excited. When they were doing this scavenger hunt Lena ran off. Callie ran after her, knowing that you always have to be with your buddy. When Callie caught up to Lena, Lena was surrounded by a pack of wolves. Callie knew that if she yelled the wolves would chase after her. So she stayed silent and helpless. In the next few seconds she heard a yelp for help and when she looked over to Lena, the wolves were tearing her apart. It was too late but Callie tried to be as quiet as possible and she ran as fast as she could. When she went to get help she told Kiara the counsellor, "Lena was killed by some wolves!" The counsellor looked confused and said quietly, "Callie you're scaring the others calm down, who is Lena?" "Lena the girl I buddied up with." "Sweetie, there is nobody named Lena at this camp and there never was." The counsellor replied cluelessly. Callie ran back into the cabin to only find there was an empty bed.
This can't be happening!
She asked the counsellor, "if there is no Lena then who's my buddy?" The counsellor replied with a simple, "you're in a three group silly with Carmen and Laura."

That night Callie was trying to think it through and what is going on. Then Callie heard screaming coming from outside. Callie jumped up and looked out the window to see Ellie being dragged away by a large creature. Callie called for the counsellor but by the time the leader came, Ellie was gone. Callie went back to sleep.

At 6:00am the leader came around waking the girls up. Callie got her swimsuit on and ran down to the water. When they were there, all the girls were barely touching the water. Then as soon as Callie jumped in the rest of the girls did the same. Then the leader told the girls that she'd be right back. Callie was swimming with the other girls when suddenly Laura got pulled under the water. Callie screamed and tried to help her up but it was no use. Callie jumped out of the water and ran to find the leader. When she found her she screamed "Laura got pulled under the water by something and she didn't come up!" The leader looked confused and explained that there was never a Laura at the camp. "Do you need to go to the nurse? Maybe you have a fever or your mind is making you see things because of he heat" exclaimed the leader. "No, I'm fine..."  Callie said as she walked away confused.

The next day, the girls and leaders went for a hike. After an hour of hiking they found a nice spot near a cliff with a river below it. They settled down and had a picnic for lunch. The girls started playing tag and ran further down to another spot on the cliff. As they were playing violet tripped on a rock and fell down the cliff. The girls screamed and ran to the leaders shouting "Violet fell off the cliff!" The leaders got up and walked over to them. "Girls.. We don't have a Violet here" said one of the leaders. "Well then who did we just see fall off the cliff??" Asked Carmen. The leader gave the girls sandwiches and said "we're missing something?..." Carmen and Callie said, "uhh, the rest of our cabin crew." The leader said "No, juice boxes." And she gave a little laugh.

The next morning Callie and Carmen weren't woken up. So Callie on her own decided she's going to go on a polar dip. Alone. She got down to the water, the lake was still dark but the sun was slowly waking up. Callie jumped in and started swimming. She went under and opened her eyes. She saw a large fish thing swimming across in front of her. She came up then went back under again. This time she looked at the ground and she could barely see what was going on but she saw... The bodies of Lena, Ellie, Laura and Violet. Callie screamed and started to go to the surface of the water, but before she could reach it something bit her and dragged her down. She tried to escape but before she knew it her body was filled with leeches and that big shark was chewing away at her.
