It was way back in 2005.  Ted was twenty-seven just starting to make it as an architect and living in New York with his friend Marshall, his best friend from college. Life was good and then Marshall went and screwed the whole thing up.

In front of Ted,  a nervous Marshall is on one knee, with a ring box in his hand, "Will you marry me?" He asks Ted. What neither of them realize is the long brown haired girl who just entered the apartment, through the window, just as Marshall pops the question.

"Yes, perfect!" Ted says to his best friend since college in an excited. The boys hear slow clapping from behind them. Both boys turn around and see their friend.

"Congrats, boys!" She exclaims, "I always thought you two were hiding something," she continues with a smug look on her face; making her way towards the kitchen.
Both boys give her a dirty look to which she counters with a cheeky smile.

Ignoring his friend Ted turns back to Marshall who is still on his knees, "And then you're engaged, you pop the champagne! You drink a toast!" He says excitedly.

"You have sex on the kitchen floor." Replies the brunette girl with her head in the fridge, looking for something to eat.

Ted turns to her and point an accusing finger at her, "No," he says to the girl in his kitchen before turning back to the boy in front of him "Don't have, sex on OUR kitchen floor."He tells him seeing as the two men share the apartment.

"Got it." Marshall replies standing up. The brown haired girl pokes her head out of the fridge, giving Marshall a look that said, 'yeah right'. Marshall smirks at the girl, confirming that what she suggested may very well happen. She smiles back at him before putting her head in the fridge once again. "Thanks for helping me plan this out, Ted." He says gratefully, to which Ted just smile.

The girl grabs a slice of pie, going to the utensils drawer to get a fork before making her way back to the two men. Taking a bite of her pie as she stands next to Ted, Ted replies to Marshall, "Dude, are you kidding? It's you and Lily..." he looks to the brunette standing next to him. His eyes fall onto the slice of pie. "J, that's mine, isn't it?" Ted asks.

"Nope," is the reply he receives.

"Yes it is..." He pulls out a toothpick with a small flag attached to it. It says, 'property of Ted. DON'T EAT!'

The brunette smirks as she continues to eat his pie. "Well look at that I guess it is yours," she takes a bite, "oh well it's mine now."

Ted sighs before turning back to Marshall. "Anyways," he says glaring at the girl who is now sitting on his couch watching the two men. "I've been there for all the big moments of you and Lily. The night you met. Your first date... other first things." Ted, says, shuddering at the memory. The girl on the couch shudders slightly at the mental image of Lilly and Marshall doing it.

Marshall laughs putting the ring back in his pocket, "Yeah, sorry. We thought you were asleep."

Ted start explaining," Its physics Marshall, if the bottom bunk moves, the top bunk moves too." Shuddering once again at the memory.
