Almost a year ago I wrote a short one-shot titled ‘New Year’s’ and I remembered being so nostalgic and emotional because I had been reading a lot of older niley fanfics during that time, and at that moment I decided that I want to bring back what I consider as the golden age for Niley fanfics. It was around 2009, 2010,2011, and the fanfics I’ve read were from that time when Nick and Miley were about 17 year olds.

Most of the fanfics they were in high school; the stories circulated plots in which our favorite characters discover what it feels to be in love amidst the long hallways and endless crowded locker rooms; in between Friday night parties, sneaking in liquor, the popular cliques—either you’re in them or you hate them--and occasional problems at home.

That is high school. And everyone would very much agree that no matter how shitty it could be, it’s also every individual’s golden age.

My intention for ‘New Year’s’ was to redeem my aching feeling of being around that atmosphere, although neither Nick nor Miley attended high school in real life we all love to imagine them to be, along with their friends. We all love the idea of our favorite characters being young, in love, getting into trouble, and well…just being typical teenagers. Because we relate to those ideas so well.

And yes, when I look back at it I feel like this nostalgic feeling will never wash away. Maybe a personal emotion for me that I can’t explain.

However, this story has almost the same intention as ‘New Year’s’ although not exactly, I would also like to give all of you who are reading an experience, a reminder of what it feels like in those simpler times in our adolescence where Nick and Miley were disney’s power couple, when we had Hannah Montana or The Jonas Brothers merchandise and would listen to the bubble-gum pop music we consider as masterpieces.

I want this book to somehow bring us back in time. Everything is so different now. Some things I wish would’ve stayed forever couldn’t and so they changed.

A fusion of emotional nostalgia, unexplained feelings, those forlorn times and the distant need to see my two favorite people in their younger days again; I give you this book.

This book is dedicated to younger me, who loved reading fanfics as much as present me love writing them now. She would love this so much.

This book is also especially dedicated to my dear friend Nadia Cederkrantz, who happened to be texting me while I was writing this. Nellie, if you happened to read this now you know why it took so long for me to reply…besides the fact that I’m at work (I love you, I’m sorry).

And for all of you, I guess this is enough for now. Go ahead and read the book ;)

xoxo
