Unexpected (Chicago Med) Under Editing

Chapter 14

"Wake up. Wake up!" I heard as I felt my shoulders being shaken. "What, what's wrong?" I ask seeing Connor's panicked face. I had fallen asleep on his couch the night before. "My.... my sister is in the hospital." He said in a rush. At this I jumped out of bed and ran towards the door. "I'll be back and then we can go!" I called over my shoulder.

I ran into my apartment to see both Zach and Genesis curled up on the floor. The TV on, probably from last night. They had two bowls around them, both only having a little amount of popcorn in them. They were both curled in on themselves and looked really cold so I grabbed the blanket off the top of the couch, and covered the two with it before heading to my room.

I put on a white sweater, a pair of jeans, some brown ankle boots, and a grey scarf before going to the bathroom. I brushed through my hair before doing a messy partial braid with it. I did my makeup before running out of the apartment. Looking down at my phone, I realized it had taken me a total of 15 minutes to get everything done. "Connor come on, I'm ready to go." I say as I open his apartment door. He was sitting on the couch waiting for me to come back so we could go.

"Do you want me to drive? You seem a little shaken up." I tell him softly as he was walking towards me. "Please?" He answers handing me the keys. We made it to the hospital in about 15 minutes. The both of us got out of the car and hurried inside.

"Your here! Your sister is in room twelve." April informed us as we walked in the hospital. "Thanks April!" I called behind me as we started walking to room twelve.  When we walked in I saw Grace just lying there, she appeared to be sleeping. Kelly was in the corner of the room, he looked as if he had been crying. "You!" Connor said pointing a finger at him. I grabbed his shoulder pulling him back some. "Let me talk to him, you can sit with your sister." He nodded before going over to Grace's side shooting a glare at Kelly.

"Hey, mind telling me what happened?" I whisper to him as I sit down beside him. "We had gone for a picnic on the beach...." After telling me all that had happened he looked down at his hands. "It's all my fault." He whispered to himself. "Kelly it isn't your fault, to be honest I wouldn't have thought she was serious either." I tell him putting a comforting hand on his upper arm. "You didn't know this would happen, stop worrying." I whisper in a stern voice.

"Dr. Rose, someone is here to see you." A nurse said poking her head in the room. "Okay. Thank you." I say getting up. "Play nice." I give a stern look to Connor before leaving the room. I walked into the waiting room and saw both Zach and Genesis there. "Hey! What are you guys doing here?" I ask them. "I am so sorry! I didn't want to leave him home alone, but I have an interview today so I brought him here." Genesis says rushed. It was then I noticed what she was wearing. She had on a black pencil skirt with a white button up blouse. "Okay. Thank you. What time is the interview?" I asked her. "In about forty minutes but I don't want to be late." She says. The both of us laugh knowing that she is always late. "Okay. Good luck." I tell her hugging her.

"Hey." I say to Zach. "Sup dude?!" He says trying to sound cool. "Oh nothin much bro, sup with you?" I say imitating the voice he used. The two of us looked at each other for a minute before laughing. "So we'll have to ask,  but if they say you can stay in the room with Grace, or the creak room area." I tell him as we walk down the hall back to room number twelve. "What happened to Grace?" He asks not having been told. "She almost drown yesterday. Don't worry she's gonna be fine!" I say seeing the look of worry on his face.

"Hey." I whisper when I walk in seeing Grace awake. "How are you feeling?" I ask her softly. "I'm fine." She whispers although her voice comes out scratchy. "Are you okay?!" Zach asks running forward to be by her side. She smiles a reassuring smile at him before I look away. I catch Connor's eyes and he gives me a questioning look before looking at Zach. Moving closer to him I lean over and whisper in his ear, "Genesis had an interview she had to go to. Is it alright if he stays in here to keep her company for today? We both have to work and I assume Kelly is going to have to go back to work at some point today."
