"Hurry UP Nico! Jax needs me! IMMEDIATELY!" I screeched from the passenger seat in Nico's fairly new pickup truck.

"I AM hurrying Kalani, just not as much as I would like to." He mumbled the last part whilst giving the bottom of the control panel a sharp kick, making it roar to life.

"So NOW you behave for me?! When there's a girl for you to make a move on?! REALLY?!" He snapped at the vehicle, making me giggle.

"I doubt that anyone would want to impress me." I said truthfully.

Nico floored the gas and tightened his grip on the wheel.

"Don't say that about yourself." He said firmly. "Or else I might just take longer to reach your boyfriend."

I choked on a laugh. "Jax is NOT my boyfriend, Nico, as far as I am concerned, mine does not exist." I said, hoping to sound genuine and not hurt.

"So you aren't single then?" He asked me.

"Oh well, no I am, but I consider my cupcakes my date to everything, and when people ask me I just say that I'm not single. Thing is it gets lonely when the love of your life can only speak through your tastebuds." I told him, making him laugh softly.

"Cupcakes?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'm in love with the Red Velvet flavour, me and Jax." I said. Now my mouth was starting to water.

"So... you and this Jax... are you just friends? Or are you hoping to become more than that?" He asked, sounding a little protective.

I burst out in a fit of uncontrollable laughter. "Y-you think that-" I had to pause and try to breathe.

"Pinch yourself if you're having trouble stopping laughing." He said, his hand creeping towards my thighs.

I let him pinch me and my laughter died down. "Jax is gay Nico." I said. "We've been friends since around second grade."

"Oh." He said, and turned back to the road. A clear sign in guy language that the conversation was over.

We pulled into the campus driveway a few minutes of unbearable silence later. I dove out of the car, uttering a quick thanks to Nico for everything and I took off towards the looming room ahead of me. The boy's dorm.

Tentatively, I reached to knock on the door. To my great surprise, Jax swung the door open and pulled me into his embrace. His face was stained with tears.

"Jax?..." I started, but he cut me off.

"I'm so so so so so sorry Kali, I should have called sooner, I should have kept an eye on you, but now it's probably too late." He cried into my hoodie, that I had clearly slept in. I just realized that Nico had found me asleep in the middle of the road. How did he find me? Why was I there? What would have happened if he hadn't saved me? And most importantly- How did he know my name?

My mind was swirling with so many questions, thankfully my Knight in shining armour came to my rescue.

"Hey, Jax is it? I'm Nico. I found Kalani in the middle of the road around 3:00, you're her best friend, right?" Nico asked Jax, who immediately spun me around to be facing Nico, my back against his chest. I shivered, feeling his warm breath against my neck.

"Yes, I am, right K?" He looked down at me with the affection of a big brother.

"K?" I asked. "Since when do you call me K?" I grinned mischievously at him.
