I woke up shaking hard in Nico's arms.
His eyes were closed and he was whispering soothing things into my ear.
I broke out of his grasp and backed into the farthest corner of the room.
He let me go, but his eyes showed confusion, and something else, hurt?
"I-I'm sorry, it's just-" He interrupted me, RUDE!
"Kalani, it's okay, you were dreaming, and it probably scared you to wake up like that. I'm sorry." He said, his ocean coloured (or colored, depending on nationality) eyes never leaving mine.
He stood up and brushed himself off.
"I have to go now, work and stuff. You should get some proper rest, need a ride?" He inquired.
I nodded and followed him out to his midnight black pickup.
*********
I struggled with the seatbelt, tying myself up more and more, my tired brain refusing to cooperate.
Nico sighed and untangled me, plugging it in for me.
"Thanks." I said quietly, staring at my feet.
He nodded and the truck roared to life.
I decided to finally ask all the questions that were bouncing around in my mind before I forgot them.
"So, Nico, how did you know my name?" I asked, training my blue/green eyes on his blues.
"I may have seen your driver's licence." He answered. "While you were unconscious."
"All right, now how did you find me?" I continued, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"You sleepwalked in front of my truck." He stated simply, eyes on the road.
"What did you show the lady behind the counter?"
He shifted uncomfortably and readjusted his grip on the wheel. "That's classified."
"Then why did she get to see it?" I asked, suspicious now.
"Because you needed to get to your mother and she wouldn't let you in." He defended.
"But why can't I see it?" I pressed.
He slowed down and pulled over, then he looked at me, he was radiating discomfort.
"Don't make me beg." I deadpanned.
He was so close to giving in, hesitation was written in bold in his eyes.
"Nico..." I whined. "Please don't make me bring out my puppy dog eyes."
Oh my god he was soooo close to giving in, I just need to convince him more.
"I don't have it with me." He said, breaking the silence that I hadn't realized had settled over us.
"It's in your wallet, isn't it?" My expression was dead serious.
"Kalani, would I lie to you?" He was walking on thin ice now.
"You met me yesterday, so yeah, I don't even have your phone number." I said in a duh tone.
As soon as I had said it I regretted it, I just gave him an opportunity to change the subject, I just let him win the argument. IT'S NOT OVER YET, I WILL FIND OUT... EVENTUALLY!!!
"I can give it to you." He looked triumphant. He knew he had won because I couldn't refuse.
I sighed and reached into my back pocket for my phone.
