Recap:
I walked to her slowly. Getting closer with every heartbeat. I finally stared into her eyes.
"Hello again, Mia."
------
Her eyes widened. She took a step back.
"Taekwoon Oppa? What are you doing here?" I sighed.
I guess there is no point in hiding it anymore.
"I...I work here." Her forehead creased.
"Really? So...you work as the camera crew? Or a stylist?" Avoiding her eyes, I dropped my eyes to the ground. This is harder than I thought.
"Why aren't you answering me?" I finally stared into her confused eyes.
"I am a singer here. I work as a celebrity. An idol." Loud and clear. There, I said it. She looked even more confused.
I grabbed her gently by the wrist.
"Here, come to my studio...I'll explain." I walked along the hallway, pulling her along. Dubiously, she followed.
I pushed open the doors to my studio, her footsteps echoing mine. I gestured to one of the chairs.
"Have a seat." She sat down and fiddled with her fingers.
"Please explain." She said. So I did. From my audition to my trainee days to the day my group, Vixx, got our first win.
She nodded her head at times, and stayed silent throughout my explanation. When I finally stopped, she glanced up at me, her forehead creased.
"Why didn't you tell me that the first time we met? Why did you lie and pretended you didn't know about this company?"
I sighed, frustrated.
"It wasn't as simple as you thought..."
"So you planned to go on lying to me?" I looked at her. Her eyes were downcast, dejected.
"I...I don't know." This might not be the best answer but it is the truth. I see her shift in her seat.
"I should go. I shouldn't be here bothering you." She stood up and walked towards the door.
"Wait." I don't know what came over me but I desperately wanted her to understand. I grabbed her wrist and spun her around so she was facing me. Then I placed my hands on her shoulders, steadying her.
"Look," I said, gazing into her troubled eyes," When people find out you are a celebrity, people don't treat you the same. They treat you like you're their best friend when all they wanted was fame. But you...I wanted you to like me, for who I am, not who I appear to be. Can...can you understand that?" I avoided her eyes, embarrassed at my speech. How stupid do I sound?
She blinked once. Twice. Then the smallest hint of a smile appeared on her lips.
"You...you wanted me to like you?" Pink tinted her cheeks as she bit her lip nervously. I couldn't help the laugh that came out of me.
"That was all you got from what I've said?" I chuckled, shaking my head from the situation. A giggle bubbled from her lips, her smile lighting up her features almost immediately.
"...Yes, Mia. I wanted you to like me." Her smile grew and I reached out to ruffle her hair, her soft strands gliding through my fingers.
"Oppa." I glanced at her. She looked serious all of a sudden.
"Yeah?" I tilted my head to the side, curious to what she has to say.
"I do understand. Sorry for misunderstanding you." She gave me a small smile. "But for the record, I wouldn't have treated you differently if I had known." Her smile is so genuinely sweet and I could tell that her words are sincere. I suddenly had the urge to wrap her in my arms and pull her against my chest.
I frowned internally, what is wrong with me? I...I can't date her, she's my colleague now. It's against the rules. I suddenly find it hard to smile. I glanced back into her eyes.
MIA's POV
Hie eyes were playful for a second. He now looked at me with an unreadable expression, his orbs tinged with...sadness? He offered me a sad smile.
"...Thank you." Was his reply. I wondered what went through his mind. I kept my silence, deciding not to pry. He stepped back and extended his hand towards me, I looked at it curiously.
"Since we're acquainted now, can we...be friends?"
Friends? That word echoed in my mind. But I want to be more than that. I kept my mouth shut. Since that is what he wanted...
I placed my hand in his, forming a handshake. Forcing a smile, I tried to ignore the butterflies in my stomach when his fingers closed around mine.
"Friends."
Little did I know, what a terrible idea that was.
