It was nice to have a friend over.

Keith had basically spent every day of their suspension with him, and they watched tv on the couch, did their work, and just hung out, all day.

It was nice, since Hunk and Pidge were always busy, now, they never had any time to just hang out anymore.

Keith had become as close a friend as Hunk and Pidge were, and that was basically an honor.

The Friday before they returned to school was the most eventful.

Keith and Lance were studying, at this moment.

But it was quiet.

Keith was very strict on his studying area. It had to be absolutely quiet, but Lance couldn't do that.

He kept interrupting him.

Keith was getting annoyed.

Another silence hung over them.

So, of course, Lance blurted another question.

"Um, So I know you're supposed to hate me, yeah?"

"I'm not supposed to do anything. I hate you because you're annoying." Keith joked. Lance seemed to be taking it serious, because his face dropped and he said,

"Yeah, I know, but could you find out a way to maybe not do that?"

"Stop being annoying and I'll try."

"Okay."

Lance tried to be quiet.

He really did.

It was too suffocating.

"...so do you remember that one time-"

"Fucking hell Lance, do you have a mute button? Just be quiet!"

The words resonated in his chest.

Mute.

Quiet.

Lance's eyes widened, and he remembered the incident.

"Quiet!"

Lance's father's directions earlier were now being used against him.

"I'm not going to give this up. My family deserved better. The union-"

Bullet.

Blood.

Fear.

Quiet.

It was so quiet. He was paralyzed.

Quiet.

He wanted his father back.

He was dead. He was dead, Lance, you saw him, on the floor.

Stop.

Quiet.

"Lance. Lance! Hey, Lance!" Keith was holding his shoulders.

Lance snapped out of it, but when he did, he realized that there were tears running down his face and his throat was sore.

"Lance, are you okay? What's wrong?"

Lance couldn't find it in him to say anything, so he instead choked out another fit of sobs, falling into Keith.

Keith pulled him tight against his chest, squeezing him.

He rubbed Lance's back, speaking in a calming, yet stern voice.

"Hey, hey, it's okay. We'll be okay, alright? So just focus on me. Focus on Keith."
