I had always thought that it would hurt. That was my biggest fear on the lead up but it was the opposite of pain. Warmth enveloped me and it my body felt instantly lighter. A simple flex moved the blue tail underneath me. I stared at myself under the water, lost for the sight. The blue was the same colour as my hair and the silvery blue scales that covered my arms. I surfaced and looked up at the moon, the ocean surging around me. My hair had grown and reached down to my waist. I wanted to swim, to glide through the waves and see how fast I could go. I turned to see a figure, a human speaking to me. His mouth moved, his mismatched eyes pained as he moved towards me. I cocked my head to one side as he reached a hand out to me. I feel like I should have known him. I heard a splash and turned around to see Kagami jump out the water, propelled by his large, strong tail. I wanted to try that. i dived into the water, my tail speeding me through as my gills breathed for me. Kagami was next to me, his hair streaming behind him as he smiled at me. we surged through the ocean, the glowing fish that came awake at night surrounding us.

"I have missed this."

His voice was normal as he spoke to me as we floated along on our backs, looking up at the moon shining down to the ocean.

"It feels amazing, I don't know how you could give it up. I want to swim forever."

I took off, heading towards a small pod of dolphins and joined them as they swum around, their long noses nudging me, the sound of their calls resonating through me. I was where I belonged. Something niggled at the back of my mind, something I had forgotten but the ocean wrapped its arms around me and I continued to play, my worries soothed.

Akashi's Pov

Kuroko's hand slipped out of mind as a soft blue light lit up the water around him. When we could see, just like it had with Kagami, Kuroko was floating in front of me, a true merman. My breath hitched in my throat as I stared at him. His skin had become even more beautiful if that was possible. Not a single mark marred his pristine white skin. Scales of silvery-blue were tastefully scatter along his arms, hands and cheeks. His blue eyes where wide and shining form the moons reflection but the biggest change was the hair that now surrounded him as it reached to the top of his hips.

"Tetsuya."

I called his name but he didn't even acknowledge me. I felt my throat tighten as he looked up at the moon, not hearing my voice.

"Tetsuya, please here me. Are you still in there?"

He turned to me but I saw no sign of recognition in those bright eyes. He actually looked confused that a human was talking to him.

"Tetsuya, it's me. It's Seijuro."

My voice cracked as I felt my emotions swell. Fear that he would go in the water and never come back. I reached for him but he turned away and then he was gone beneath the waves.

"Tetsuya!"

I went to move even deeper into the water but a hand grabbed my shoulder, stopping me in my tracks. I turned my pained gaze up to see Midorima beside me.

"You said you would let them be."

"He didn't know me Shin. He looked straight through me as if I wasn't even there."

I heard the pain and tears in my voice but I had kept up the façade of an emotionless pirate for so long that the tears never fell.

"It's his first change, he will come back. Just have faith in him."

Sure that I wouldn't run into the water after the bluenette my first mate let me go but he continued to stand by my side for a moment as we watched the two mermen frolic in the water before us. I was captivated by how beautiful Kuroko was and how different he really was. Even though we both had mer blood in our veins he was a different creature entirely. Would he even come back when danger and fear awaited him as a merman in human skin?
