you taught me how to love

The 'break' seems to go surprisingly well. They're both fine with it, although missing holding each other's hand. The night after school, they're both stuck on what to do. They don't have anyone to kiss or talk to or cuddle.

Calum turns to his phone on, typing out a new message to Michael, and then deletes the words slowly, one by one. This break sucks, and he hates not being able to talk to Michael without questioning whether or not he's going too far.

Michael: I hate this break.

Calum: Same. But it's good for us, isn't it?

Michael: I guess. I just didn't want us to fight about what we did anymore.

Calum: okay. Well I'll be out, then, I guess?

Michael sighs, laying down in his bed. Okay. He turns his phone off, groaning, because he knows he's doing the right thing, but he just doesn't like how bored he is. He calls Luke, but he's busy. Trying to protest, he whines a little more.

"Fine. Come over. You can help me record shit."

Michael cheers because he finally has something to do. He drives to Luke's, and the blond is already playing guitar, whispering the words to himself.

"So, what do I have to do that you can't do yourself?" Michael asks, taking a seat behind the camera.

"I don't know . . . judge me?"

Michael scoffs. "That's easy."

Luke rolls his eyes. "Judge my performance, fuckface."

Michael smirks. "Still easy."

Luke sings 'Please Don't Go' by Mike Posner, and Michael stands there dumbly, trying to be nice about the critiquing. The blond raises an eyebrow, looking up at the pale boy expectantly.

"Um, you need to be more chill, and like . . . I don't know . . ."

"Is there something wrong with my voice?"

"No, I didn't say that at all!" Michael says quickly.

"Come here and be my back-up vocals." Michael – feeling guilty – drags the seat over and sits next to Luke. Luke sings, and Michael backs up where he thinks he needs to. Once they're done, the natural blond grins. "That was much better with you in it. Ever thought about singing as a career?"

"Way too far-fetched." Michael says, scratching the back of his neck. "It would be cool, though – making music for people to hear."

Luke smiles, nodding. "I get you."

"I'm not very good anyway, I mean – "

"Shut up, Michael. Your voice is great. Now let's play COD."

They play the game for a solid two hours before Michael grows bored again. He kind of misses Calum, and he's annoyed that he made them take a break, even though it was for the best.

Luke sighs, standing up and going over to the white-board his Mum uses for planning things. "So, you're all sad about Calum, yeah?" Michael nods, and Luke writes + and - on the board. "What are the positives to Calum?"

"He's really nice and he treats me well and he really cares about me and he loves me." Luke rolls his eyes about how sappy Michael's being, and writes some points down on the positive side.

"What are the negatives?"

"Um, he cheated, he smokes, he hit me once and he blames me for the cheating."
