John Gage wrinkled his nose at seeing Craig Brice standing at the desk sorting through supplies while Dixie stared. She looked utterly bored. Bob Bellingham, Brice's partner, stood eating part of a sandwich.
"Do we really need supplies right now?" Johnny whispered urgently to Roy. DeSoto shrugged. "Might as well. We can't avoid Brice forever ya know. He is still part of the fire department." he said walking up to the small group and leaving John to sulk.
"Hi all" Roy said with a smile. Dixie's eyes lit up at the thought of being saved. "Hey Roy! John! You're awfully cheerful today" she said to the fireman. Gage went to stand far away from Brice, which was next to Bellingham. They exchanged an I-dont-blame-you glance before he offered John a piece of his sandwich. Being Johnny, he happily accepted it.
"Need some supplies?" Dixie asked tearing her eyes away from the odd exchange. DeSoto nodded and told her what they needed. He pursed his lips as she went to grab everything and opened his mouth to speak. "Ho-" "How's Genevieve? Have you heard anything? Is she ok? I heard from Tony on C shift that she was blind. But just temporarily right? She's ok right"
Everyone's jaw dropped at Craig's sudden explosion of questions. He seemed concerned and mad at the same time as if the everyday chit chat had bothered him and made him finally crack. Roy looked at Dixie. Dixie looked at John. John looked at Bob. He shrugged. "Brice and Genevieve used to be partners before she was transferred to your station. He's been like that all day"
Brice sighed heavily. "Never mind that! How is she?" Dixie blinked before regaining self control and replying "Last I heard she's fine. She's at Dr. Brackett's house-"
"SHE'S GONE!" Dr. Brackett yelled as he stormed down the hall in rage. "Uh oh" Dixie muttered leaning on her hand "look out" "She left with- with- with a nurse of yours!" Dixie sighed "Kell would you calm down""I don't wanna calm down!"
"If she's with one of my nurses then she's fine!"
"What if she's not! Genevieve has been through a lot and i dont need her traipsing around with some-"
"Watch it! And she's probably with Sam right? They're best friends"
"I don't care who my daughter is with! I want to know where she is!"
Dixie prepared to argue but stopped cold. "Daughter? Your daughter?" Dr. Brackett's mouth moved as if he was going to say something but he didn't. He couldn't. He didn't mind that the fireman knew but this wasn't the way he wanted to break the news to Dixie.
Just then the tones blasted through both Roy and Brice's radios at the same exact time. They seemed to go on forever.
"Station 35, station 8, station 51, station 10, battalion 1. Structure fire; 505 Daisy Ave. cross street Elm. 505 Daisy Ave. cross street Elm. Time out 7:22"
Dixie gasped sharply. "That's Samantha Clark's apartment building!" She exclaimed. Dr. Brackett swallow hard and looked around at the men who began running for the door. Kelly was close behind and determined to reach his car just as fast. Nothing was taking his daughter away again. Nothing.
