Crying, Shyla walked through Republic City, ignoring everyone and letting the tears silently fall. Lin had killed her father. Kyo was gone. Shyla could never face her mother now. Lin was an evil killer. Shyla trudged through crowds of people, trying not to scream at them to get out of her way, when she heard her name.

"Shyla!" She turned around to see her big sister, Seisha, running towards her.

"Seisha?"

Seisha's face was tear-streaked as well, and she was crying more loudly. "Shyla!"

Shyla and her sister ran towards each other and collapsed into a hug.

"Father's dead!" Seisha screamed into her sister's shoulder. "He's dead, Shyla! And there's nothing we can do to bring him back!"

Shyla was now heaving sobs. "I know, Seisha. He's gone, and it's all because of Mom!"

The two sisters stood hugging and sobbing, mourning the loss of Kyo. Kyo was among the dead now, and he was never coming back.

"Seisha?" Shyla asked, lifting her head. "I think we need to get out of here."

Seisha looked confused. "What? Get out of here?"

Shyla nodded. "I mean, we need to leave Republic City. It's become a horrible place since Mother killed our father and is still trying to kill more people. Namely, me and Amon."

Seisha pulled away in surprise. "You mean she's planning to kill you, too?!"

"We've got to get away," said Shyla. "If we don't, she'll kill us all!"

"But is she planning to kill me, too? And Kayo?" Seisha asked.

"Well, I don't know exactly," Shyla admitted. "But she is killing our family! Don't you think if she has killed Dad, and she's trying to kill me, she'll go after you, too?"

"I don't know," Seisha said. "But you can't just move the whole family to another city just because she wants a couple people dead!"

"Three people," Shyla corrected. "Amon."

"Right," said Seisha. "But surely she's doing it for a reason. I mean, she had to be angry with Dad for some reason in order to kill him. And she must be angry at something you and Amon did."

"But what could we possibly have done?" Shyla argued. "We would never have done anything to hurt her!"

Seisha shrugged. "Think really, really hard. Think back to when you first found out that she wanted to murder you."

Shyla tried, but she couldn't.

"And, Shyla, how did you find out, by the way?"

Shyla sighed. "I was in the hospital talking to Amon and he said that Mom was talking about both of us 'leaving', but he wasn't sure she meant it that way."

"See?" Seisha asked reasonably. "You don't even know for sure if that's going to happen! You probably had me all worried for nothing!"

Shyla shook her head. "No, Seisha." She wiped her eyes. "That's not true. Mother is going to kill us."

"Um, Shyla?" Seisha asked. "How, exactly, do you know? For sure."

Shyla stood silent.

"That's what I thought." Seisha squeezed her sister and grabbed her arm. "Let's go to Amon's. I'm sure he will be able to explain the whole thing."

Shyla didn't think that was necessary, but she wasn't arguing with her sister. She went along as she was told, not saying a word the whole way.

When they approached Amon's, Amon was standing outside with a pillar.

"Amon?" Shyla asked, confused. "Why do you have a pillar?"

"Do you really think Lin would hurt you that badly?" Seisha laughed, rolling her eyes and going into Amon's house.

"I'm not protecting myself from Lin," Amon said as Shyla approached. He stepped closer. "It turns out it wasn't Lin who killed Kyo. It was Tarrlok."

*******

Shyla and Amon sat in the bedroom and talked while Seisha roamed the house. Shyla knew Seisha was just trying to leave her and Amon alone because Shyla needed to know the truth about Lin and Seisha didn't.

But Shyla knew the truth. It was Seisha that was clueless.

"Lin did beat Kyo pretty badly," Amon said. "But be honest, Shyla. Could he really have died from that?"

"But what did Tarrlok have to do with any of this?" Shyla asked.

Amon sighed. "Shyla....Tarrlok snuck in the hospital and put snake venom in place of the pain syrup."

Shyla let out a loud, long wail. "It was him?!"

Amon put a hand on her shoulder. "Yes. It was him."

Shyla cried softly for twenty solid minutes, her sister never once coming in to check on her.

Amon squeezed her and said, "You better go check on Seisha. See what she's doing. Then you both should probably get home. Since your mother isn't the killer, you can probably face her."

Shyla looked up. "Are you kidding? Amon, just because she didn't exactly kill my dad doesn't mean she isn't still trying to kill us! You haven't proved her innocent of that, have you?"

"Well, no," Amon said. "But-"

"Amon, don't," Shyla interrupted. "I know she's still plotting."

Shyla stood up and walked straight out of the room and called out to Seisha. Seisha didn't appear to be nearby. It wasn't worth Shyla's time to roam the house looking for her sister. So she went straight out of the house and on to Maru's house.

She knocked on the door and when he opened it, his eyes flashed with pain and sorrow. "Shyla." He opened the door wider and motioned for her to come in. "Come in."

"What's wrong?" asked Shyla. She sensed his agitation.

"Sit down," he said, and they both sat on the couch.

"What is it?" Shyla asked.

"Shyla," Maru began. "I...I've been cheating on you."

Shyla felt herself grow limp. "Wh-what did you say?"

"I've been cheating on you," Maru repeated.

Suddenly Shyla became angry. "Who have you been cheating on me with?"

Maru hesitated. "You're gonna hate me forever...."

"WHO HAVE YOU BEEN CHEATING ON ME WITH?!" Shyla screamed, standing up.

Maru sighed. "Seisha," he said quietly.

Shyla felt her face grow cold. "You've been cheating on me with...with my sister?"

Maru sighed again. "But Shyla...Seisha is so wonderful. I think I love her."

Shyla tried not to cry in front of Maru. "Where is she?" she asked coldly.

"In Capital City," Maru said.

Shyla bolted out the door and ran through the dark streets to Capital City. Why would Seisha be there? Didn't she know how dangerous it was there?

When she reached Capital City, she froze. There on the hill under the brightly lit stars were two figures kissing.

It was Seisha and Tarrlok.
