Chapter Five - Sage's POV
Five Months Later - Wednesday - 14th August
I breathed in deeply as I slipped on the dress with the help of Sarah, a friend of my mother's with a good eye for fashion.
My whole body felt as if it were on fire, as if I had needles pricking at my skin. My hands were clenched into fists and I was digging my freshly manicured nails into my skin as I tried to ignore how nervous I actually was. Some part of me felt as if I could run forever and never grow tired, but another part made me feel like I was going to be sick. I had waited for this day for years and now that it was here I felt terribly nervous about it. I'm sure my father felt the same way when it was his time, but that thought still didn't ease my jittery nerves.
"Oh you look beautiful darling!" I hear Sarah. I raise my eyes to meet hers in the full length mirror, her eyes have watered up with tears and her hands are cupped over her mouth. "Stop looking at me silly girl!" She snaps suddenly.
I roll my eyes and finally look at myself in the mirror. My grey eyes widened as I took in my appearance, the dress was a beautiful dark blue, almost grey colour. It was strapless and had a darker coloured strip around my waist, making it show my curves. The bottom of the dress reached the ground and was almost frill like and had splashes of light grey along the bottom. It was absolutely beautiful.
"Do you like it?" Sarah asks suddenly, she now looked almost worried.
I laughed and nodded my head. "I love it." I say, my eyes beginning to water as I stared at myself. "It's perfect Sarah, thank you."
Sarah waves off my complement with a chuckle. "Don't cry darling, you'll ruin your make up." She says, grabbing my hand within her own. She pulls my hand softly and leads me across the room to another mirror. "Sit down so I can do your hair."
Without argument I sit down, stroking the material of the dress in between my fingers. It was silky against my skin and it was comfortable to move it. In the mirror I watched as Sarah began to work on my hair, gently brushing it until it all the tangles were out, she then began to fiddle with it; frowning.
"Would you like it up or down?" She asks, her eyes meeting mine in the mirror.
"I don't know, what would you suggest?"
"Personally I would leave it down, maybe curl it and then clip into back out of your face." She answers, gently pulling at a strand of my hair.
I smiled, "down it is then."
"Excellent!" She pipes, eagerly beginning to do my hair. She curls it into loose curls and with some strands of hair from the front she braids it and pins it down so it keeps the hair out of my face. After a few minutes of adjusting she steps back. "Done!"
I look at myself in the mirror again, the corners of my lips tugging upwards until a full smile was spread across my lips. I rose from the seat and turned to face Sarah, within two steps I was in front of her and had my arms wrapped tightly around her thin figure. "Thank you so much."
"You're welcome my dear, I shall go inform your mother that you are ready." She beams, stepping up out my arms and clapping her hands together; her eyes still watery. Sarah quickly walked across the room and opened the door, scurrying out before either of us could say anything else.
I laughed softly to myself as I leaned against the edge of my desk, my gaze intently focused on the glass doors that opened up to my balcony. Beyond the balcony I could see the trees moving in the wind and if I concentrated hard enough I could hear the rustling sound of leaves in the trees. Tonight was simply a time of celebration, the welcoming of new heirs to the high positions. Tonight was my night, along with Mason's and Josh's. Tonight was the night where we would step up to be Alpha, Beta and Third in Command.
