Chapter Eight; Sage POV-
Thursday - 16th August
I didn't know how long I had been running for, or how far. Every step I took was like a knife to my heart, my wolf grew even colder inside of me and I could basically feel how savage she was slowly becoming. I wanted nothing more than to comfort her, to let my wolf know that everything would be alright. But we both knew that nothing would ever be the same again. We had both been pushed to the limit, we were balancing on a very thin ledge and anything could easily send us over the edge. We were both broken, in more ways than one.
But I knew I needed to put on a brave face for the sake of my pack, they needed to see that their new Alpha was a fighter - I wouldn't give up.
However, the second the house came into my view and I heard someone yell my name, everything crumbled. Through the back door my father emerged, his grey eyes wide with fright as he ran towards me, behind him followed my mother and Sebastian and behind them several pack members emerged.
As my body was engulfed into my father's arms, I sobbed, the tears streaming down my face and my body shook as I clung onto him. With his arms wrapped securely around me I couldn't help but feel like my five year old self, when I had been that young girl who had once curled up into my father's side in fright whenever I heard the terrible roar of thunder.
My father held me tightly, he didn't offer any words of comfort or reassurance; he just remained completely quiet. His hand gently brushed over my black hair as I blinked my eyes open to peer over my father's shoulder.
Sebastian stood, holding Mum against him so she couldn't run and tackle me to the ground like I knew she would. When I gave a small nod of my head, Sebastian released her and she ran to me. Dad released his grip on me and Mum's arms quickly replacing his.
"Oh my baby!" She finally gushed, leaning back slightly, her delicate hands gently pressed against either side of my face as she looked over me. She brushed a strand of my black hair behind my ear before pulling me into another tight hug. Though this time my knees buckled underneath me and Mum came down with me so we were both kneeling on the ground, arms wrapped tightly around one another.
"I'm so sorry we couldn't protect you." Mum stuttered as she unwrapped her arms around me to wipe her eyes.
"This isn't your fault." I told her, tilting my head slightly to meet her gaze.
"I'm your mother! It is my duty to protect you." She cried.
I shook my head slowly, barely noticing that Sebastian had crouched down next to me.
"We tried to follow you, but Hunter's stopped us." She sobbed as she stood up, leaning against Dad for support.
As Sebastian wrapped his arms around me I released a loud sigh in an attempt to calm myself and stop the tears that never seemed to end. It took me a few moments but finally I was able to calm down again, and my tears stopped along with my shaking.
"Did Trent make it back?" I asked, turning my head to look at Dad. "Did they all make it here?"
He gave a small nod of his head and a weak, almost sad smile graced his lips. "They all made it back." He answered, wrapping his arms tightly around Mum.
"They're all in the infirmary." Sebastian tells me and when I glanced at him I noticed an odd look within his eyes.
"I need to see them." I demanded, my voice cracking as I spoke.
Dad shook his head. "No, right now you need to rest."
"I need to see them." I demanded again, this time adding my Alpha tone.
