Lauren's POV
"Moe???" I croak out. My hand was still in laced with her fingers and I give it a light squeeze before letting go. Her eyes seemed to be adjusting to the light because she was squinting and rubbing them.
"Oh my gosh, you're actually awake," I breathe out. "I have to call the nurse."
I stand up and find the pager on the edge of the bed. I repeatedly press the button a couple times alerting the people at the nurse's station.
I can't explain how I'm feeling at the moment, it's a mixture of shock and hope. I knew this moment was coming and I couldn't be happier with me by her side when it finally did. It seemed too unreal.
"Where am I??" her voice was still hoarse and gentle. I hold her hand and soothe her arm, she looked like a lost puppy.
"You're here at the hospital baby. How are you feeling?"
Before she could answer, the nurse quickly comes in through the door,"Is everything okay??" I turn around and as she walks over, she smiles widely, noticing that Moe is awake.
"Well, hello Morgan. I'm so glad you're finally up. Let me go get your doctor, I think he just came in." The nurse walks out, leaving the door open.
"I thought I lost you Moe-Moe. Don't ever do that to me again, you left me broken by your bed for almost two weeks. I was so scared," I softly say while stroking her hair at the top of her head. She only looks at me but doesn't say anything.
Her head was still resting on the pillow and she licks her lips before looking over the other way where the window is. The view outside was breathtaking, cool blue skies and many buildings stood down below. The sun shined down on the huge city and it captured Houston's beauty. I got used to looking outside the window after spending days in this room.
She then turns back to me and looks me in the eyes, "Can I ask you a question?"
"Yes, of course honey. Anything"
She pauses for a couple of seconds. I was willing to do anything she asked of me, anything to help her at all.
"Who are you???"
My heart immediately comes to a stop after I hear those 3 words. I felt my self getting hot and I couldn't move. Does she not remember me because she lost her memory? It was like I just got punched in the gut and now I immediately feel sick to my stomach. I could see the confusion and seriousness in her face and I was wanting to break down in tears that very moment.
I hear a knock from behind me and a man who looked to be in his thirties walks in the room with a clipboard in hand.
"Good afternoon Miss Brian, hello Mrs. Holiday. I'm Dr. Rodgers." He reaches out to shake my hand and does the same to Moe. She can barely lift her arm up and was struggling. I step away from the bed in complete distraught, not knowing what to do or say. I couldn't get any words out of my mouth and if I were to talk, I'd start crying.
He goes to the other side of the bed and presses on a few buttons to move the bed upwards instead of leaning back. Moe was now sitting upright and looking everywhere around the room. She scans around me before turning her attention back to the Dr.
"You're vitals are normal right now. We've been taking good care of you while you were out but you were on some heavy medication. Don't worry about your weakness right now, you'll get better after we change the dosage and some of your prescription. First of all, how are you feeling?"
"My head is pounding and I don't know why I'm here. I feel very weak, like I can barely move. Can you please tell me what happened? Where are my parents?"
