“Girls, let’s go! You’re going to make your father late!” I yelled up the hallway.
“Oh my god, one moment, PLEASE!” Grace screamed back. I sighed in exasperation as Blair came hopping down the stairs. My daughter, after thirteen years it was still crazy to say that, had shoulder-length hair which still held its natural red tint from when she was a baby. Her eyes were as true a green as they had been when I first met her. Blair had a certain quiet charm with a brilliant smile that made all the boys blush. Grace was quite the diva inheriting her mother’s wit. As I thought about her, Grace came parading down the staircase like a true pageant girl. Her hair was teased and in loose ringlets of brunette. Grace’s eyes were truer to Kiersa’s than mine but they had faded to a greyer blue rather than their original blaze. Grace and Blair may be twins but they were polar opposites. Grace was a diva, fashonista, and smartass. Blair, on the other hand, was shy, down-to-earth, and modest.
“Sorry, Daddy. You-know-who had to fix her eyeliner because it wasn’t quote un quote even,” Blair chuckled. Grace rolled her eyes as she tapped on her phone.
“I’m not Voldemort, idiot,” Grace retaliated under her breath.
Louis came rushing into the kitchen adjusting his collared shirt and glasses.
“Are you ready yet?” he begged. I took a glance at the clock.
“Oh shit, you’re all going to be late! Go, go, go!” I shooed the family out the door planting a kiss on each girl’s cheek and one on Louis’s lips.
Once they left, the house was perfectly silent. This was my favorite time of day. After the girls came into our lives, I had decided to stay home to look after them. Louis’s job at the high school paid better than most teachers’ jobs. Two weeks ago Blair and Grace had had their Sweet 16 party with over 100 guests. That was probably an event big enough to rival our wedding. In these past years, we hadn’t heard one peep from their mother, Kiersa. The day she dropped them off was literally the day she walked out of their lives.
When it had come time to tell the girls about the history of themselves, we had to explain the complicated story of Damien, Kiersa, and myself. They had been completely transpired by the story, and in the end had completely understood. Grace took a deep hatred towards her mother immediately which made her feel closer to us but also troubled me at the same time. As a father, I always worried about them especially in social situations. I was always afraid the kids at school wouldn’t accept them because their parents weren’t like everyone else. Surprisingly, they had been accepted and Grace had even been nominated Homecoming Queen as a freshman, a feet unheard of.
I swung open the fridge to find my own breakfast and winced as a sharp pain passed through my head. Shaking it off, I grabbed a grapefruit.

I kept my head low as I walked into school. As soon as Dad had let us out at the front, Grace abandoned me to go find her popular friends. Yeah it was that kind of thing. Grace was beautiful and perfect and everyone loved her. Me on the other hand, I got bullied on a daily basis. His name was Daren, my tormentor I mean. The worst thing was he didn’t even make fun of me really.
No, he made fun of the fact that I had two dads. Most days I just ignored him because I could handle the imbecile but on days like today he was a nuisance. “Hey Blair, how’s your mom? Oh wait… sorry you don’t have one!”
