Chapter One- Mucho Gusto

Kensley's View:

"Okay, I'm going to need you to push. Tuck your chin and push like you're taking a poop, okay?" I looked down to see the start of a little head with dark hair. I had gotten to the hospital and scrubbed up just in time as my patient was exactly 10 centimeters dialated and ready to push. I was glad that I was on call because I had been sitting around at home watching crappy episodes of reality tv, snuggling up with my puppy Stella, and eating an entire pint of Haagen Daaz Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream all by myself. "Come on baby, you're strong, I know you can do it." my patients husband encouraged.

I willed myself to settle down and focus on the task at hand which was getting the baby out, I was just getting to the point of becoming focused when all of a sudden a tall, muscular figure breezed through the door out of breath. " Hey, sorry I'm late. Did I miss anything?" he asked as he placed his hands on his thighs to catch his breath. "My baby sister is having a baby! This is so exciting." he came around and stood behind me. "Stop looking down there, oh my gosh dude, that's disgusting! Siblings should not see those parts of each other!" she whined. " Someone get me a waist up view. I don't know why people say that this is such a beautiful thing when it is straight disgusting. I would hate to look at blood all day, and ewww did she poop?" he questioned.

"It happens to more people than you think, it's just a part of labor." I offered. "And I'm going to need you to either pick a seat, or stand and be supportive of your sister. Your comments although slightly delightful, are unnecessary and they are distracting her from pushing this baby all the way out." I stated. "Who are you?" he questioned with slightly raised eyebrows. "Dr. Raelyn, the OB/GYN that is in the midst of trying to deliver your sisters baby." I retorted. "Okay Miss Harleigh, just one more big push and she should be out. Take a deep breath in, puff your cheeks out, tuck your chin, and push like you're taking the biggest poop of your life." I instructed.

Harleigh took in a huge breath and followed my instructions. After what felt like a long time, I held up a little baby girl. "Happy Birthday Beautiful!" I proclaimed. "Welcome to the world! Who's in charge of cutting the cord?" I asked. "I am." her husband said through his tears. After stitching mama up and handing the baby off to the nurses, I left the room satisfied with knowing that I had just contributed to the world.

As I was entering the lobby to go home for the night, the dark, tall, muscular figure approached me. "Dr. Raelyn." his deep voice called out. "Yes." I replied spinning around on my Tory Burch flats and looking up at him. "I just wanted to apologize for what I did in the delivery room, you know with being "sassy" and all." he said. "But, I will have you know that sometimes sassy is good."

"Oh I know, I enjoy being sassy just like the next person; but not when my focus is getting a baby out safely." I challenged. "Apology accepted." I said smiling. "What's your name by the way?" I smiled up at him again, literally.

"Jay Will." He replied sticking his hand out. "Yours?" He asked his hand still gripping mine.

"Kensley, Kensley Raelyn." I said trying to let go, but not wanting to at the same time. "Well, it was nice meeting you. Congratulations on being a sassy new uncle," I said as I slowly walked away. I heard him chuckling from behind me.

There was something about Jay's tall figure, the way he over exaggerated being out of breath in the delivery room, the fact that he used the word sassy, that struck me. I couldn't figure out what it was but there was something about that Jay Will.

Jay's View:

"Prepare your body. Dig in, dig in, dig in, dig in." These were the words I muttered to myself within the incasing of my helmet, as I turned over tires across the field. My team and I were preparing for the biggest championship game of the season, and we weren't going down without a fight. As sweat dripped down my face and I pushed myself endlessly, I heard a voice call out my name in the distance. "Jay!" I heard. "Jaaayyyyyyyyyy, bring it in, bring it in, it's urgent." I heard my coach say. Coach D would never interrupt a workout unless it was something life altering. I dropped the tire where it was and jogged over to him. "Yes Coach?" I questioned after taking off my helmet and shaking out my mound of dark hair. "Your sister, Harleigh, she's in labor. You need to get your ass there, I heard screaming." the look that I gave him must have been one of terror. The sound of a screaming girl is one of the most awful ones in my book. It doesn't matter if you're an eight year old girl at a Justin Bieber concert, a cookieless two year old, or a twenty-seven year old in labor, it all sounded the same to me. Coach chortled, "It's okay son, just hurry up and get there. You don't want to miss anything."
