600 freshmen.

340 second year students.

160 third year students.

In total, 1100 students were in the auditorium.

As each school year passed, half of the students of each year remained for the next year, causing the number of students to be less than the previous year.

The reason of why this happens every year was because, at the final of each term, the school tests the students with a number of exams on sorcery techniques and their abilities would be analyzed and ranked by seeing their results. Then, if their abilities don't seem to be fitted for this school, the students wouldn't be able to assist the school and forced to drop out. If they're not unfit, they would continue the next school year.

The requirements to pass the year were, obviously, to have good grades in the knowledge exams—math, language, history and spell. There was also evaluation of techniques, which not only had sorceries, but would also include physical fighting abilities.

When Mikan took the entrance examination, she had passed with normal scores—they were neither high nor low as she didn't put any effort in the tests. After all, she didn't want to attract more attention than what she had for being from the treacherous branch house.

Now, each student was aligned in the assigned lines of their classroom, filling all the space of the auditorium and there was the brunette, standing along the people of her classroom.

At the same time, many kind of thoughts crossed in the students' minds. Some were filled of joy because of starting a new life at this school and others looked forward to the competitions. Like this, the babble of the students started as the principal was still giving his long greeting, which was going to come to an end in a moment.

"You are students who were chosen. You are the seeds of light who might become candidates for the top brass within the Order of the Imperial Demons in future. Hold that pride in your heart, and have a fun student life..."

Mikan stared at the principal and thought about Kei and Rei.

"I hope they're fine..." She mumbled lowly.

Soon, a voice called her.

"Tachibana Mikan. May we talk for a moment?"

Many seemed adamant to have a talk with her today. A sigh came out from the brunette as it reminded her the absurd conversation she had with her white-haired classmate.

Assuming it would be a meaningless talk, Mikan pretended to have not heard the voice.

"Are you ignoring me?" The person raised their voice.

'...What a pain.'

Mikan moved her eyes towards the direction of the voice. The person turned out to be a red-haired girl, clad in the same sailor uniform. The female was in front of her, which means they are in the same classroom.

She had almond-shaped eyes, that seemed to have a strong will; and a fair skin. Judging by the color of her hair, she must be Jūjō Mito. Mikan also caught sight of a black-haired male beside the girl.

"What kind of issues do you have with someone of the despicable Tachibana house, Jūjō?"

"Hmph. At least you're not as ignorant as I thought—wait. Why did you leave out the honorifics?" She protested.

"So what? My clan cut ties with the Order of the Imperial Demons a long time ago, so I'm not obligated to call you politely out of respect or anything." The brunette stated. "It's bothersome."
