Out of the corner of my eye
a pitch-black blur streaks past
followed by the tell-tale crash and crinkle
of his favorite prey.I look over at him
he looks over at me
a quiet chirp escaping his chest
as he realizes
that I'm watching.Suddenly he abandons
his kill and charges
in my direction
leaping up and landing
a direct hit to my stomach.I sigh as I look down
at his small and furry inverted face
with his deadly fangs peeking out under his lips.
I reach down
and rub his belly
