"Welcome to Gryffindor!" I said leading the new students up the stairs. Sam, Gryffindor Senior Prefect, stood next to me as we walked, the pure white smile flashing at the small and excited children. I grinned at their eagerness to begin their latest adventure. "The greatest house at all of Hogwarts." I smirked.

"Watch it Ryder." Charlotte said to me, James Ravenclaws prefect grinned and snickered with her as they high fived. Charlotte and I have been friends since 1st year, she was the head girl of Ravenclaw and was leading their new students to their new dorms.

"I'm so sorry for telling the truth." I laughed, she rolled her eyes as we went down two different halls to the dorms. "Now, a couple of tips for surviving here at Hogwarts-" I started.

"NEVER listen to the Ravenclaws on anything except schoolwork because they're usually wrong." Sam interjected. I chuckled and shook my head.

"I was going to say always listen to the professors, but also true." I nodded. "So with that said, if you want to thrive at Hogwarts you need to live by the 5 commandments. One, have house pride to earn house points. The more you gain the more people will like you. Two, don't be arrogant to teachers or students. We are all equal here and you are no better. Three, hand in all school work on time, study hard. Four, don't forget the password to the common room you will be locked out... we are not as forgiving as Hufflepuffs. Five, never disrespect me or I will end you. Got it?" I growled. The first years stiffened and I smirked "Glad we understand each other." I smiled turning to the painting. "Quid Agis." I said to the fat lady. She nodded and opened the gate.

"Welcome to Gryffindor common rooms. Your stuff is inside of your dorms, Lady's to the right Gentleman to the left names are on the doors." Sam said.

"You are expected to find your own way to the great hall in the morning. Breakfast is at 8." I told them. "Also in the common room you do have certain rules to follow so listen closely, I will not repeat anything. Do not leave your trash around, house elves have enough to do with cleaning your rooms. If you see that someone left a book, or anything they might need to bring it back to them or hand it into me, Sam or one of the prefects."

"Do not put out the fire when it is lit, you will smoke the whole room up." Sam added.

"He knows because he did it once. Everyone was furious... Just be courteous to your brothers and sisters in Gryffindor. We are a family here and I do not like to have to peer mediate because you spilled your drink on one of your friends' books." I said crossing my arms looking at the small first years.

"Off then, if you need anything find me or Ryder. Our rooms have big plaques on them because we're special." Sam grinned with a laugh behind his eyes. I shook my head at him and smiled as the first years ran off to find their rooms. Sam pushed back his golden brown hair and smiled at me through his bright green eyes. I had no other response but to reciprocate.

"I'm gonna go settle." I said adjusting my robes. Sam nodded.

"See you in the morning." He smirked.

"See you." I smiled. I slowly walked to my dorm lingering in the moment. Though I would never admit it, I always like Sam as more than just a friend, he was funny and sweet and gorgeous. Even the first years were drooling, but I knew that he didn't like me like that and so I was content being his best friend.

I turned the doorknob and entered my dorm exhausted from the trip here making sure everything ran smoothly and sitting in the great hall for an hour watching the new students. I was ready to fall asleep. But every year started the same with Wendy and Teddy fighting. Their bickering sounded through the room and I groaned. I had missed many things about Hogwarts and my friends over the summer. This was most certainly not one of them. Their fights were endless and without ever a real reason.
