***Keshini***
"UHH! The wifi here is so bad!" she complained talking to no one in particular. It was either her phone wouldn't respond or the server would crash. She shut the flip phone case of her phone and placed it on the desk in annoyance.
"Yo Keshini, did you finish the homework?" Grace came along to ask her.
"What homework?!" She replied in panic. Great. Something else to top up the pressures in her life. She kinda wished everything would disappear. The school. Her crap phone (of course, her parents had promised a new one for her). Her so-called homework.
"Screw it yo I'm not doing it!" She replied sitting herself back onto the chair. She sighed. If only something exciting happened. She thought. She could practically guess how the events would play out in the next what? Two minutes? Mrs. STC would pass out lame worksheets and she'd have to attempt at them knowing that this language would never benefit her. She knew that half the class would pass by with Azaan goofing off with Mrs. STC. She guessed she couldn't complain about that... after all, that was the only fun she had in school.

"Hm, hm hm, hm, hm hm..." She hummed in the school bathroom fixing her scarf. The cloth that she wore to today kept annoying her by slipping off her head. Small strands of hair poked out of the inner piece that she wore. "Uhhh!" She whined undoing the effort she had put in. She knew she shouldn't have worn that filthy scarf today. The only thing that stopped her was the fact that it matched perfectly with the outfit that she wore today.
She shrugged her shoulders, "I guess it was worth it." She washed her hands and took one final glance at herself in the mirror. Perfect. Her eyes wandered across to the side of her face where, yet, another strand poked out defying her actions. She know from practice that if she were to try to tuck it back in, her fingers would only bring out more hair. She sighed. This would hurt. She took a grip of the stand and squeezed shut her eyes. In one pluck, she pulled the strand loose from her scalp. "No biggie," she shrugged. As she walked out of the bathroom, she smiled and said to herself, "I guess I am strong after all."
***Shivika***
"Three more minutes for break to end!" She thought rushing towards the algebra classroom. Anticipation was growing into her and her friend as each footstep hit the ground.
"How do you think you did on the test Mounika?" She asked her friend.
"I honestly I don't even know... this test was kind of easy though." she replied looking down at Shivika. Mounika had always been too tall for her. Too tall for any of the girls in their class. "What about you?" Mounika added.
"Not good yo..."
They dashed at the end of the hallway and into the cold classroom choked with fatigue filled memories of the early morning math classes. The thought of them brought shivers down her. Math class was too early in the day for her. It had actually ruined her days most of the times. Though, she did remember that one time before winter break where she had sat down and enjoyed the company of her friends as they had translated a bollywood movie just so she wouldn't be left out. That memory brought a smile to her. Even though the movie had made no sense to her, it was one of her best memories of math class.
"Shivika," The teachers familiar voice leaked into her thoughts calling her from her distant memories, "let's see what you got here..." Anticipation ripped the soft smile off her cheeks and reality hit her...
***Mounika***
It's wasn't everyday she saw her friend smile soon after revealing that she might not have done that good in the math test. Especially if that girl was Shivika. Shivika was a serious girl who knew when to laugh... right after a math test? On which she did terrible on? That was definitely not her. The irony of the situation itself brought a stifled laugh into Mounika. Of course, Mounika had no reason to worry. She knew she had aced that test. It was incredibly easy; but that was probably just her.
Mounika entered the class and exchanged a few words with the teacher. She took a swift glance at her score and cried with joy. She had scored, yet again, another hundred percent! (surprise!) She took a glance at Shivika who still seemed to be lost in her own world reluctant to return to reality.
"You got a ninety-nine percent Shivika!" The teacher proclaimed. Shivika stood there for a moment, grasping the information she had heard. A giggle escaped Mounika as she noticed the sudden change in Shivika petrified-to-exhilarated look.
"NO WAY!" She screamed jumping around in circles. Mounika high fived her laughing along with how the tables had suddenly turned. "Dude I never expected that! I actually thought I completely failed! What the heck?! But I got number nine, ten, and fifteen all wrong on the test! It's not possible!"
"Okay, Okay shivika calm down! Hahaha You should have seen your face! It was hilarious! Your expression-" Mounika was cut off as a sudden explosion rocked through the classroom.
The both of them were sent catapulting to the back wall. The wind was knocked out of them as Mounika's hazy vision tried to focus but the only thing she could make out was the shattered windows. Her vision suddenly became an annoying hazy yellow. Like that of a lazy afternoon. A sudden smell of chemicals and bleach reached her as she put in effort to cringe. A cough racked through leaving shuddering pain pulsating through her. She looked to the side as a groan escaped nearby. Shivika was lying there in the same situation. Immobile. Lifeless. And in sudden darkness...
