***The Runners***
Ethan watched them as their scent grew fainter. "The Runners," nicknamed by Felix, who took the time to act cool by making a fist and then sticking out his thumb and pinky finger, had climbed onto the low roof of the changing room.
Alexis took a stance and looked passed the ledge of the roof. Walkers piled away and shifted slowly to and fro from the swimming pool doors. They had accepted defeat. At least that's what it seemed.
"Are we going to jump?" Garrett whispered nervously looking down. They had been lying flat on this stomachs looking at the moving abominations below them.
"Dude. Are you crazy? I'm not jumping into a trap." Felix replied fear gnawing at him.
"Felix, scoot to the side. We'll go where there aren't any walkers..." Alexis ordered.
The Runners scooted to the left, moving slowly across the dust covered ceiling. They crouched to the end of the changing room's ceiling. They looked across to the ceiling of the gymnasium. A big gaping sidewalk tore in between the two buildings.
"Now what?" Mounika whispered, "the gym's roof is too far off..."
"Why don't we check on the other side?" Shivika suggested.
"What other side?" Mounika questioned. Shivika simply motioned to the opposite direction of where they were heading. Mounika had peered over that end and it had been crowded with walkers. There was no way they'd be able to get down from the roof on that end. This side of the roof was there only choice now.
"The only way is to jump... Alexis sighed looking around at the trap below them.
"No, no, this is a death wish. We're not gonna get anywhere with it. " Mounika added.
"Guys we gotta think of some other way. " Eric began. He craned his neck and looked around. His sight landed on the tips of the ladder still jutting from beside the low roof of the building.
"Hey, what about the ladder?" He asked. They turned around and calculated their chances of survival if they put the ladder across and walked on it a bridge.
"Do you think it's going to be safe?" Felix asked suddenly regretting the question. Their safety had long ago ended, now it was all about either staying alive or partly dying.
"It's all we've got..." Alexis added making her way to the ladder.
*** Harper, Aliya, and Professor X***
The sun beat down on their foreheads as they ran on the roof of their school. The yellow haze of the sky was beginning to annoy them. The sound of grumbling and moaning of the zombies had long passed them. What once had been a restricted area for students now was their only hope. They had dodged the air conditioning ducts and other vague pipes that were strewn across the roof. They often glanced back for any sign of danger catching up.
Harper traced their position by using the landmarks in her surroundings. Judging from the staircase that cascaded below and was filled with zombies, they were above the library.
"Professor, do you know where we're going?" Aliya asked in panic.
"No idea." He replied, "I don't know any specific entrances from the roof top into the building."
