Prologue
An agent walked over to the president trying to keep up.
“Mr President you have a message from the head of the S.D.U.”
“Sigh, can it wait?”
“I’d rather it didn’t. The world would too.” He said as the president picked up the phone.
“Sir we have a problem. One of our astronomers recently discovered a lone planet drifting through space. It is heading not only for our solar system but straight for our planet as well. Although it is much smaller than our own planet, at the pace that it is traveling it will cause severe damage to our planet, having the same effect as the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.” There was a long pause before the president asked.
“So have you formed a team planning on how to destroy it?”
“Yes Sir we have. We will send a heat seeking missile into space. If we could hit the planet at the right angle only small portions will fall to earth. It would appear to be merely a meteor shower. We are waiting on you to give the order. We have agreed on not releasing news about the planet to the public, but ultimately it is your decision.”
The president walked over to the oval office and took a seat in his chair. He pressed the phone against his ear and whispered tersely.
“Elections are coming up so if this planet could mean the end of humanity... annihilate it at once.”
“Yes Mr President.”
