I knocked on the door number nine. I was on the top floor of this five story apartment. It looked new and to pricy for my first apartment. It was ten-thirty in the morning. A familiar face opened the door and smiled.

“Hey James, welcome to New York.” Troy hadn’t changed much since we were kids. He still kept his shaggy blonde hair partially covered by his grey wool hat. He looked just under six feet.

“Looks like I’m finally taller than you.” I told him as I stepped into the room. He laughed

“If I stand next to you people would think I haven’t grown an inch since school closed.” He joked.

The apartment was average size. It had a medium sized living room, a kitchen, one room and on bath room.

“You could stay in the living room since I have some stuff moved around to make to make space for you to do whatever you want with it.

“Thanks man this is great.” I said placing my bag on the floor.

“Do you want to drink something? I have pop, beer, water. If you’re thirsty when I’m not around, help yourself.”

“Iced water would be nice.” I said. Looking out the window at the beautiful view.

“Dude there’s something I’ve been dying to show you.” He said giving me my glass of water. It was filled with warm water.

“It’s warm isn’t it? Now give me the glass back.” He said as I looked at him confused.

I handed him back the glass of water and watched. He held it for about a second before I heard a sound of cracking noise. Out of nowhere I started to sweat. I looked at the glass as he turned the glass upside down. To my surprise the water didn’t even spill a drop. It was frozen solid.

“Dude, that is so sick! How did you do that?” I said looking at the frozen water.

He flipped the glass and handed it back to me. I looked at him waiting for an answer.

“The same way you did that.” He said pointing to the glass.

My eyes widened as I looked down to see that the water had melted and started to boil.

“How is this even...”Before I could finish the meteor flooded my memory I immediately remembered everything. I had wished it was just a nightmare. I looked up and Troy who looked at me and spoke.

“Let me clarify a few things for you. Come take a look at this. This was a video I had filmed a few days ago as I was walking back from the store.”

The video showed the night sky lit up by an explosion. Four large meteors split of in separate directions. This was all too familiar. I could hear the voices of people screaming and yelling as the meteor crashed into the road. The meteor was a frosty blue color and it seemed to have this frosty mist surrounding it. I watched as a hand reached out to touch the blue light blue rock.  The camera dropped and the screen started to malfunction.

“Now as you walked in my palms started to feel cold. That’s how I was able to tell that you must have touched it too.”

“So what does this all mean?” I asked.

“I have no idea but it looks like we have some sort of powers. Here try holding out your hand and focusing and your strength towards your hands.” He told me.

I stuck out my right hand and closed my eyes I tensed my muscles and focused all my strength towards my hand. I could feel something crawling down my arm covering it completely. My palm started to feel warm. I opened my eyes to see I now had a rock like skin. I faced my palm to the roof and focused. I could see a small flame in the centre of my palm. The flame expanded and shot into the air where it now vanished. The rocks covering my skin folded up and crawled back up my arm and up my back. I ran to the washrooms mirror and removed my shirt to reveal something I hadn’t even noticed. An area down the middle of my back was covered in the black rock. The glowing orange cracks outlined the different bones on my spinal cord. Troy felt down his back and as he took off his shirt there was a black and glowing rock that outlined his spine.
