Chapter 3

        Key

I pulled up to Shay's house and honked my horn about 3 times signaling that I was ready to leave, about a minute later Shay came walking out of the house at a rather slow speed. I assumed this was to be funny because she had been waiting on me for majority of the morning and now here I was rushing her.

Shay hopped in the car and immediately hooked up her AUX chord i chuckled and then said "Why is it every time you get in my car the first thing you do is hook up your auxiliary chord? You never tell me hello first or even bother to ask me if I was listening to whatever was on the radio you just hook your AUX chord up I gotta teach you some manners Shay."

Shay replied with sarcasm "Good morning my slow ass best friend you sleep well?" I laughed at this attempt and said "whatever Shante," she smacked her lips showing she disapproved of me calling her by her birth name. This of course was hilarious to me so I burst out laughing Shay looked at me out the corner of her eye and said "I'm gonna see who's laughing when I take the starting point guard spot"..

I laughed even harder and said "in your dreams chick." A couple minutes later we were pulling up to the school parking lot I did a quick mirror check to make sure my swagg was still on point then I hopped out the car. As we were walking into the school Shay looked at me and asked "You nervous?" I said "Nervous why?" She laughed and said "If you say so."

I glanced down at my schedule and Shay looked at hers as it turned out we had the first class together, this of course worked out in our favor because I was new to this school and needed Shay to show me around still.

We walked down the hall for a few more minutes before stopping in front of a door that said History 101 Shay looked at our schedule and said well super star here's our stop she opened the door and then walked in, after scanning the room a couple of seconds we decided on two desks near the back of the classroom.

We sat down and pulled out our history notebook while holding a small conversation, that's when I looked up and saw her, she was sitting three desks in front of me writing something in a small notebook; for the next 5 minutes I did not take my eyes off her.

She was the most beautiful female I had ever laid eyes on she had beautiful caramel skin with long black hair flowing down past her shoulders light brown eyes that could easily be mistaken as hazel in the light and to top it off beautiful dimples when she smiled.

For me it felt as if time had stopped and I was in another dimension I didn't know how but I had to find out who she was. My daydream was interrupted by the snapping of shay's fingers. I looked at her and said "What man?" she said "Don't what me chick I been calling your name the last 5 minutes and you been ignoring me" I said "I wasn't ignoring you man I was just a little preoccupied."

Shay looked at me with a confused look on her face as if saying preoccupied with what class hasn't even started yet... she shook her head and begin searching for something in her backpack this of course gave me time to continue looking at the beautiful female who had caught my attention.

I was so busy watching the beautiful piece of art in front of me that I hadn't even noticed Shay was watching me watch her. A couple seconds later I heard Shay clear her throat, it startled me so I looked at her and said "yeah" she said "Oh so that's the thing that has you preoccupied while your best friend is trying to hold a conversation with you."

I laughed and said "I don't know what your talking about".. Shay looked at me and said "Fine two can play that game since you gonna act like you don't know what I'm talking about I'm gonna pretend I don't know who she is."

This of course caught my attention as soon as she said it, I begin pleading my case by saying cmon man look okay I admit it I was watching her but only cause she beautiful as hell. I just wanna know her name man. Shay looked at me and smiled and said "Aww bestie you got a crush."

I laughed and said "Man whatever tell me something about her. "Shay finally gave in and said fine.. "I don't know very much about her but I know her name is Alexis and her best friend is Rachel she's on the track and volleyball team she used to play AAU with my sister."

Quite honestly I didn't give a damn if she played a sport at all I just wanted to be around her. Shortly after Shay finished telling me we begin class. The teacher introduced herself and then told us and outline of what we would be learning for the year, I swear everything that she was saying was going in one ear and out the other because all I could focus on was Alexis.

Once the bell rang me and Shay walked outside to our lockers we met up with Shay's friend TK and made plans for lunch. Once we had discussed where to meet up we started heading for the gym; we arrived at the gym and went straight to the back to change.

It must have been our lucky day because there were some girls already on the court we walked up and asked if we could get in on the action the girls seemed hesitant at first, but agreed shortly after nonetheless.

We begin playing a quick game of three on three. It was me, Shay, and TK vs the other chicks. I ain't gonna lie, them other girls knew how to serve it up on the court, but they weren't anywhere near as good as me and my girls. With five seconds left, I took the three point shot and ended the game with us winning 21-17. And that's game baby. I said dapping Shay up.

"Hell nah! We call foul b." One girl said obviously hurt about it. "Man foul your ass to them bleachers before you get washed up little bitch." I heard TK reply.

" I got yo bitch right here so wassup!?" The main broad yelled out. In my head, I'm thinking should we really serve these hoes real quick, but then I remembered it's only the first day. Aye Shay TK chill out we ain't got time for this shit. Let's get ready to go to lunch. I said yanking her arm. " Oh better believe this ain't over. We gone catch y'all bitches slipping sooner or later."

We were walking outside to the car when I spotted Alexis sitting under a tree I yelled at Shay and told her and TK that I would be over shortly. I begin walking in Alexis's direction, it may not have shown but I was nervous as hell my heart was pounding and my palms were sweaty.

Once I got close she looked up and asked "can I help you?" I responded by saying "Yes I'm Akia I'm new here I know you don't know me but to be honest with you I think you are absolutely gorgeous and I can't take my eyes off you...if it's okay with you I was wondering if I could get your number so I can call you sometime."

Alexis stood up and said.." Nice to meet you Akia and that's very sweet of you to say but I don't really give out my number like that." I looked at her and said "I understand." I then started to walk towards the car that's when Alexis said "Akia".. I said "call me Key" she laughed and said "of course let me guess Akia sounds to feminine", I laughed and said "No it's just when I hear Akia I look around for my mother."

She smiled showing those beautiful dimples and said "Okay well Key even though I don't give out my number you can give me yours." I tried not to look to eager but I don't think it worked she pulled out her phone and I placed my number in it. I then smiled and said "aye don't put my number in your phone and not use it...okay" she smiled and said "if your on your best behavior I will"

I laughed and said in that case I'm not gonna get in trouble all year. She looked at me and said we will see then turned and walked toward her friends. As I begin walking back to the car I couldn't help but smile, it had been awhile since I liked a girl this much. I hopped in the car with Shay and TK thinking to myself Austin may not be so bad after all.
