Charlie's pov
I didn't get much sleep. Today is a time for decisions. I had a horrible nightmare. I saw The Creed and they were fighting but not to hurt. It was almost like they were competing.
No. They couldn't be. They only did that when...oh no.
If my dream was a vision then that means they've chosen champions. Champions are only chosen for dangerous missions. I've only been here for a few weeks at the most. If nothing else has happened then that means they could only be getting ready for one thing...
They were coming to get me!
For about two seconds I was extatic. I'd never been so happy to know people cared about me to risk that much for me.
But, like all great things, those two seconds had to end with the immediate realization of how insane they would have to be to try this.
I know for a fact they can't do it. I've taught each one of them EVERYTHING they know. I went to extreme lengths not to show them everything I know.
Not out of selfishness but for their own good. If they knew the things I've come to know they would get even less sleep than I do and I don't get enough as is.
And since today is the day of the duel Keiro challenged me to they'll have perfect cover for every demon in the city will come to see the match.
Well at least I taught them critical timing if not common sense. Maybe they can pull this off. But the real question is...do I want them too?
Even if they succeed John's position is solidified. I've lost my title as leader. By the laws I created I'd be considered a demon. The code of the creed is 'no mercy shown, no quarter given, no acception'.
The code would force them to kill me. What do I do? Oh man I'm so screwed.
I sit up in bed and look too the ceiling deciding that I'll have to cross that bridge when I get there. For now I'd need all my concentration not to die.
I get and I go to the bathroom. I look in the mirror and notice for the first time I have a full beard! I look ugh older than when I'd last looked at myself. I pulled out a razor and begin to go to work.
After some time I'm back to a clean shave and my normal cutthroat demeanor that I'd learned from many years on the hunt. I walk back out to my room and find a pile of armour on my bed with a note on top of it.
Dear Charles,
I took the liberty of having this forged for you three days ago. It's a masterfully crafted full set of armour set in stygian iron. Our best blacksmiths worked themselves to the bone to make it. Our enchanters have spent any hours filling it with countless protections spells. It won't bend and it won't break for anything accept imperial gold. Which unfortunately for you is exactly the material of Keiro's sword. Don't worry he'd have to hack at you for some time before your armour gave out. You'll do fine if you keep your head. I have faith.
-Love Statia
I put the note down to inspect the armour. It was indeed stygian iron. It was very light. It even carried a breeze like summer clothing. I saw that it had black dragon headed shoulder guards with rubies for eyes. It had a dragon head for ever joint and each dragon had rubies for eyes. There was a dragon in the center of the chestplate but instead of rubies it held diamonds in its eyes.
