God, Harry is totally past it! After breaking up their little snog-athon I fell into step beside Marnie, who was shaking her head, laughing at her friend and Harry.

“I’ve seen him drunk but this is hilarious! Usually he gets moody or down right perverted, but today? It’s weird.” I was pleased to see Marnie smiling at that, she seemed a generally quiet girl which gave the impression it had probably been Flo’s idea rather than hers to come to the club tonight. We arrived at the limo and I opened the door for Marnie and she got in, dragging me after her.

“Easy there pumpkin! If I didn’t know you better I’d think you have alternative motives.” I made my voice go husky and Marnie’s eyes widened. She gaped for a second until she realized that I was joking, then she just flat out glared at me.

“You wish!” Not the usual reaction . . . this girl was definitely interesting. Paul helped Harry into the seat opposite and laid Flo down next to him with her head in his lap. Harry definitely looked pleased and started to stroke her hair lovingly. Great. I looked at Marnie but she didn’t seem worried; she just smiled sleepily and murmured, “It’s OK; I don’t mind Flo being with guys. I just draw the line when they start eating each other’s faces, she’s made quite a few mistakes in the past just to piss off her parents, but I hate to see her get hurt. And, as you said, it’s unattractive.” With this she rested her head on the window and closed her eyes.

“Hey! Don’t go to sleep! Don’t leave me to talk to Harry; I might have to strangle him.” I could see Marnie shaking with laughter.

“Alright then, but you have to be interesting if you want to keep me awake.” This made me smile. It was probably the first time a girl had doubted my interesting-ness.

“How about you tell me about the life of a normal person; I miss it.” She lifted her head to look up at me with her silvery eyes. I definitely could get lost in eyes like those. With a sudden jolt I realized what I’d just thought. Maybe Harry wasn’t the only one whohad too much to drink. As this was the first time I had actually seen her in the light, I noticed she had dark brown hair which hung in smooth curtains around her face. I remembered her standing next to me earlier; she was average height but still half a head shorter than me. She was definitely a lot taller than her friend and muscly looking, like she did a lot of sport. Her skin was quite tanned which only made her grey-ish green eyes stand out more. It was so intense I was almost grateful when she put her head back down.

“Hmm . . . what do normal people do?” She giggled sleepily. “I have no idea. I’m not your best example of normal.” This made me grin but she couldn’t see it.

“Maybe just tell me about you then?”

“I am Marnie Riversdale. My birthday is the 5th September. I live in Kingston, and used to go to school in Wimbledon.” At this point she shuddered, as if her memories of her old school were bad. “ I’ve done my first year in college but I’m changing to dance school this year coming. I’m buying a flat with Flo, we move in once I’m 18, only a few months to go!” This made me start. She wasn’t 18 yet?

“Hang on! How did you get into the club?” I felt Marnie stiffen and sit up, looking into her lap.

“Well . . . Flo got invites from a friend who was working there, and then she stole one of the stamps so she could buy alcohol,” That surprised me but something clicked.

“How old is Flo then?”

“She turned 17 in May, nearly two months ago.” I scraped my hair back; this just made the situation worse.
