“Hi ho, hi ho…” I sang quietly as I poured Harry’s coffee into one of the giant cups he usually uses. “It’s off to work we go…” I was in a surprisingly good mood considering the events of early this morning. God, I was even making Harry his coffee! I guess I must have been delirious through lack of beauty sleep …either that or I was turning soft. Stirring the warm drink, I walked out of the kitchen and into the living room area.
“Harry, I-” I stopped short and looked up as a sharp crack sounded. Flo, who had been standing next to where Marnie was now sitting on the couch, swore and dropped like a stone without another word, but it was Marnie who nearly made me drop my mug. She was clutching her face, a small line of blood tracing its way down her face from her nose. I quickly set the coffee down and rushed over to them.
“I left you for two minutes! What happened?!” I got a weak smile for that and I released the breath I didn’t know I had even been holding. I guessed she couldn’t have been in too much pain then.
“Flo…she…” reaching to touch her nose, she winced. “Eesh… my nose really hurts.”
“Yeah, it’s bleeding too.”
“What?!” she wiped the back of her hand underneath her nose and swayed dangerously when it came away startlingly red. At this point Harry broke out of his shock and rushed forwards to kneel down next to Flo, pulling her head into his lap, completely disregarding his coffee. I turned back to Marnie,
“What actually happened?”
“She was leaning over me and woke me up, so I sat up quickly and my nose connected with her head.” She sounded really bunged up and blood had started seeping through the fingers of the hand clasped tightly over her nose.
“Louis! What do we do? She won’t wake up!” Harry was obviously panicking and had gone several shades whiter than normal. He needed me to be strong and calm but my mind felt like a beehive: chaotic and noisy.
“It’s okay Harry! It’s alright…Marnie go to the bathroom, there’ll be cotton wool and tissues in there.” Marnie nodded, still holding her nose and started picking her way through the dark room with her head tilted back, trying to stop the bleeding. I turned back to Harry,
“Harry, I need you to-”
“Ow!”
“Marnie?!” my head snapped around, Marnie was staggering away from the edge of the wardrobe. As she turned towards us, what I saw made me gasp. Her entire bottom half of her face was covered in blood, her nose now gushing, drenching both her and her clothes. She had her eyes screwed tight shut in pain. I leapt over the couch and caught her around the waist before she could walk into the wardrobe again.
“Oh Marnie…” up close she looked like someone out of a horror movie. She was trying to pinch her nose, which was obviously hurting, but it wasn’t doing anything to stop the flow.
“Harry!” I yelled and he quickly galloped over.
“Yeah? Oh shit.”
“Take Marnie into the bathroom - carefully! And get her some tissue.” He nodded and guided her away. Knowing she was in relatively safe hands, I turned my attention back to Flo, who was still passed out on the carpet. I stood over her for a moment before scooping her up and laying her on the couch, resting her head on the arm rest. I knelt down by her head.
“Flo? Hello? Um…Flo?” Harry was right: she still wasn’t responding. Oh jeez. I had no idea what to do; Liam was better at this kind of thing than me…
“Harry!” his head popped around the side of the bathroom door,
“Yeah man?”
“Go get Liam and the others! I need more help!”
“But what about Marnie?” he glanced back into the room behind him, looking frightened.
“I’ve got her- just go!” he did as he was told for once, and left, leaving the door open behind him. I strode into the bathroom to find Marnie standing over the sink looking thoroughly grossed out. She looked up as I hurried in and smiled, showing shining red lips and a swollen face.
“Here, go sit on the back of the toilet.” She shuffled on so her eyes were now level with mine.
“Can you pinch your nose?” she shook her head,
“It hurts too much Louis…”
“That’s fine” I muttered, looking around. Unrolling a whole load of toilet paper, I wrapped it around my hand, making an untidy wad. I tried to press it to her face as gently as I could but I could see tears pricking in her eyes even from that small touch. I handed the paper to her, really afraid of making her cry. I heard a knock on the open door outside.
“Stay here and keep that on your face. Grab some more if you need it.”
“Wait! Where am I supposed to grab it from?”
“Over there.” I said pointing to the toilet roll by her feet. She squinted, following my hand. She sighed as she finally caught sight of it.
“I really should put my contacts back in.” She grumbled.
“No wonder you walked into the wardrobe.” I sighed half laughing. She gave me a wry grin from under her wad of tissue paper. “Okay just stay put, I’ll be back in a second.” I said as I hurried out of the bathroom and straight into Harry and the others.
“Louis!” said Liam when he saw me, “what’s going on? Harry’s talking nonsense…” Liam was still in his pyjama bottoms, so was Niall, who stood in the doorway eating a bowl of cereal. Zayn stood next to Liam, dripping wet with a towel tied around his waist and bubbles still left in his hair. He quickly flicked his fringe out of his eyes, sending drops of bath water flying through the air,
“Yeah, he said something about a girl…” he trailed off after catching sight of Flo crashed out on the carpet and the drops of blood on the carpet. All their eyes went wide and Niall slowly set his cereal bowl down on the nearby desk. Things aren’t that serious are they?
“Did you kill a fan?” Niall whispered, looking stricken.
“No! She just hit her head…hard”
“Oh,” Niall picked his bowl back up, looking relaxed. I noticed Harry looking around,
“Where’s Marnie?”
“There’s another one?”
“Here,” Marnie’s voice came from the bathroom as she walked out.
“Oh boy…” said Liam after catching sight of her blood covered face and clothes. He ran his hand through his close cropped hair groaning. On seeing Zayn, Marnie quickly covered her eyes with her spare hand,
“Dude! Put some clothes on!”
“I didn’t know there were going to be actual girls here… or at least ones who’d object to me showing up!” he retorted huffily. I laughed, guessing that was the first time he had ever been told by a girl to put his clothes on.
