Books end but continue

Books always have a ending.
Some books might have a whole series.
But when you finish reading everything.
You think that everything's fine now.
But you don't realize.
That their life is not over.
And you can't hear the end of it.
You only hear a few years of their life.
Then they are gone.
Does that remind you of something or someone?
It does for me.
But they are only here for a month.
Then they leave for 5 months.
And it keeps adding months each time.
Why can't they stay?
Why do books end when their story isn't finished yet?
