It's typical to start a story by telling the reader that the weather was frighteningly awful. But, in this case, when the Doctor and his two companions landed near Ophelia's Orphanage for Girls, it actually was.
"If you say what one more time, I'm going to slap you," Lewis Kennedy snapped as he made his way around the console of the TARDIS carefully.
"B-but I don't understand. And it was quite the habit back in the day, so I really can't be blamed," the Doctor said, trying to justify himself.
"If it helps," Angela added, "none of us know what's going on."
One minute, the Doctor and his companions were flying towards the planet of Versusi and then suddenly the TARDIS blacked out and landed on the nearest destination: Earth.
Blackpool, 1973 to be exact.
"The TARDIS has lost power or something. Maybe it needs to refuel. I've never seen anything like this before. Well, actually, there was that case in the parallel universe..."
"What are you rambling on about, Doctor?" Angela asked.
Lewis suddenly groaned after knocking into something. He reached the doors of the TARDIS and pulled them open.
"Well! Will you look at that! There's a lighthouse right over there. Maybe we can go and ask them for a pair of jump cables," Lewis joked.
"Oi!" somebody shouted.
Lewis jumped at the sound of the unknown voice.
"Who the hell are you?" Lewis asked.
"Heard you there talkin' bout that lighthouse. Well lemme tell ye, sir. Stay away from there!"
"For what reason, may I ask?"
The Doctor had appeared behind Lewis and was now just as curious as his companion.
"'Aven't ye heard de rumours? 'Round town?"
Lewis and the Doctor both shook their heads.
"Well, lads, there's rumours 'bout some spirits and evil ghosts there. That orphanage is haunted, I'm tellin' ya!"
"It's an orphanage? I thought it was a lighthouse!" Lewis said.
"It's Ophelia's Orphanage for Girls. And I'm tellin' ya - stay far away!"
The man then sauntered off and Lewis turned around to the Doctor, who was now joined by Angela.
"Well, what are we gonna do now?" Lewis asked.
The Doctor cracked a grin. "We're gonna go to the orphanage, of course!"
