Regret

I can make anyone fall on their knees.
Make them break. Heart I will snip.
Though, I didn't actually mean too.
My tongue just happened to be a whip.

When the tears come to the surface,
That hollow numbness has begun.
Before I can apologize, they run off.
The damage is already done.

That darkness swept over me,
Placing a crown on the top of my head.
My heart heavy with my own guilt.
It could have been better left unsaid.

The words that left my mouth,
Seemed so simple and so small.
I would do anything and everything,
In order to go back and fix it all.

I settled in the past, not the present.
I did nothing to change my fault.
The girl was an bloody open wound,
And I ended up being the salt.

Even after she somehow forgave me,
I was haunted, I could never forget.
I knew I had changed her, broken her,
And that was my biggest regret.
