A slim figure dressed in all black slowly approaches the phone booth standing underneath the flickering, yellow lights; with shadows dancing across the glowing gray sidewalk covered in varying sized cracks, a black glove covered hand reaches out and inserts a silver, circular quarter into the eagerly awaiting mouth.
Bringing the sleek black phone to the tan ear-after inserting the memorized numbers, of course- the female patiently waits for another voice to break the rings that are the only sounds heard in the pitch black night.
"Hello?" A raspy male voice finally answers.
"This is BW, blond wolf, speaking," Thin pink lips immediately move upon hearing the voice she had been waiting for. "Is this M.I.A?"
"Oh! Hey Pai-" The male voice exclaims upon recognition, beginning to say the Unforgivable only to be cut short.
"It's Blond Wolf!" Paige hisses, blond eyebrows furrowing and lips thinning into a straight line as she begins to scold her companion. "Blond wolf! You have to remember that M.I.A, just as I have to remember M.I.A and it's double meaning: Missing In Action, and My Insolent Associate!"
"Right, right. Sorry," M.I.A sheepishly apologizes as embarrassment and shame colors their tone.
Satisfied with the end results, Paige smiles softly before directing the conversation towards the very reason for this 10 o'clock PM call.
"Apology accepted. Now, how are things going, M.I.A?"
"Things are good," M.I.A hoarsely responds, hesitation in his answer clear to both himself and Paige.
With narrowing hazel eyes, Paige quickly picks up on the hesitation that also lead to an all too visible lie.
"Is that so? Then, do tell M.I.A, why your voice is so hoarse and why you hesitated before saying 'good' when you answered my question," Paige calls M.I.A out on his lie, ice cold fury suddenly gripping her heart as a result of being lied to by one of her best friends who was so obviously in pain-and so obviously in denial about it.
"Pai-Blond Wolf," M.I.A instantly amends his code name mistake before continuing. "please don't."
"Don't what?" Paige snaps harshly before she can process her actions, the anger building and overflowing simultaneously with each word that escapes her mouth. "Don't ask why you've been crying? Don't show you I care? Don't try and pull you out of the hole of denial you've dug yourself in? Don't what, Harry?"
It was the sound of a muffled sob that yanks Paige back to reality, remorse quickly replacing the outrage she had felt not moments ago.
Silently cursing herself for losing control, Paige attempts to fix her mistake and stop the tears she had caused.
"I'm sorry, Harry, I didn't mean to make you cry; it's just I'm worried about you. But that's no excuse to suddenly blow up at you."
