{I'M SO SORRY I HAVEN'T UPDATED hopefully this pastel-ish/punk-ish oneshot will make up for it, I will try and update somewhat more regularly (also Yuuri is 17 and Viktor ((who I'm making have long hair again bc long haired Viktor is my religion)) is 18 in this AU)}
With ruffled hair and ragged breathing, Yuuri woke with a jolt, as he had every night so far that week. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, before burying his face in his palms. Within the past few months this had become a bit of a routine, however it was especially bad this week in particular. Nightmares were not the cause, surprisingly, his brain just seemingly had a natural aversion to a regular sleep schedule. The sleep deprived boy was at his wits end, he reached for his phone to check the time, as his phone lit and displayed 4:26 A.M. To someone who had fallen asleep at a normal time, this wouldn't be too bad, but as Yuuri hadn't gotten to bed until nearly 2:00 A.M, waking at this time was an issue. He sat in the dark room, walls tinted blue by the moonlight the flowed through the half-drawn curtains, contemplating what he would do next. The seemingly obvious option would be just to go back to sleep, unfortunately that's not how his brain worked, once Yuuri was awake there was no falling back into slumber.
"Fuck it." The boy muttered as he threw the covers off himself, then proceeded to throw on some black skinny jeans and a T-shirt, then grabbed his black sweatshirt and a pack of cigarettes before heading to the door. Yet, before he reached for the doorknob he hesitated, realizing his parents would surely hear him leaving. Therefore, he opted for the window instead, knowing there was a little ledge connecting to a drainpipe that he could get up and down with ease. Landing on the ground with a dull thud, he made his way down the street.
However, he was unaware that a silver-haired boy had just observed his silent escape from his own window, as he watched Yuuri stroll down the street and turn the corner. Viktor had known about Yuuri's insomnia for a while now, as they had been friends since practically forever and told each other nearly everything about each other, as they had been neighbors for their entire lives and went to the same high school. Neither of them had really ever had many 'friends', as Viktor was quite quiet and sweet, whereas Yuuri was quite brooding and seemed unapproachable, but Viktor saw through his so called 'bad boy' facade.
Viktor was the only one who really worried for him, and upon watching his extremely early morning stroll, he was more than concerned. Making a snap decision, he threw on his pastel pink, over-sized sweater and his light-grey jeans, tying his unruly hair back in a messy ponytail. His window was low enough that he could jump out without hurting himself, and Viktor proceeded to follow in Yuuri's direction. Although he could no longer spot the dark haired boy, he knew where he would be going. He knew all the places Yuuri liked to go to be alone, but there was one spot in particular that was Yuuri's favorite, especially when he couldn't sleep.
It was the time of morning where the sun wasn't up yet, but you could tell it was getting ready to rise. As the sky was still dark, but there were tints of periwinkle peeking below as they gradient-ed into a deeper shade of blue. It was early spring, making the air crisp and clear, with the underlying scent of flowers and grass. Yuuri was the one observing these features of his town from the bench on the hill above the beach. His legs were crossed with a lit cigarette falling limply between his lips, smoke dancing from the tip as he brought his hand to remove it from his mouth. He blew the smoke from his lips, as well as he nose as his nostrils flared with the smoke in a dragon-esque manner. In a few moments he dropped it on the ground and stomped it with his foot, then brought his leg back up to the position he had it in before.
"Yuuri."
The dark haired boy turned swiftly, not expecting anybody to be awake at this hour, let alone someone he knew, but upon realizing it was Viktor he relaxed back into the bench. Viktor sat beside him as they both stared out at the ocean, calmed by the crashing of the waves and the early morning chirps of seagulls. After a few minutes of pleasant silence Yuuri turned his head, observing Viktor's profile and smiling ever so slightly to himself. Despite his own love for dark clothes, he always found Viktor's love of pastel colors amusing and adorable, as it fit his personality, and hair, perfectly. Some of the people at school had made fun of Viktor's femininity, especially his unusually long hair, however Viktor didn't care. He had begun to grow his hair out in 7th grade, which immediately made Yuuri exceedingly giddy, as he had always thought he would look stunning with long hair. And now, as he gazed at the silver haired boy beside him, he was taken aback by his sheer beauty.
There was no doubt in Yuuri's mind that he had fallen for Viktor, but his steely demeanor prevented any action upon those feelings. Suddenly, he was ripped from his thoughts by a sudden realization.
"Viktor why the hell are you awake this early.....and how did you know I was here?"
Viktor glanced at Yuuri as he replied, "I woke up to get a glass of water and I saw you climbing down the side of your house, I figured that was because you couldn't sleep, which meant you would most likely be here."
Yuuri looked as if he was about to say something, but closed his mouth and continued to stare at the ocean, mesmerized by the tints of pink beginning to appear along the horizon.
"What?" Viktor spoke with a slight chuckle.
"Nothing just.....you know me so well." Yuuri said, still staring straight ahead.
"I know you need to get some sleep, Yuuri." Viktor said, still somewhat jokingly, yet his words were hinted with an underlying worry.
Although Viktor was the only one to know his insomnia in depth, anyone could tell he wasn't sleeping just by the bags under his eyes. And as Viktor said this he felt the lack of sleep hit him all at once, as if he was suddenly aware how heavy his eyelids were. Exhaustion was like a drug, clouding your judgement and fogging up your brain, so Yuuri wasn't exactly thinking as he laid his head across Viktor's lap, curling his knees to his chest as his head rested on Viktor's upper thigh. A slight, sharp gasp was emitted from the pastel-clad boy, not from uncomfort, but from surprise. But the sleepy boy hadn't heard, as he was already drifting off. Viktor smiled at how someone with such an abrasive and aloof first impression could be as gentle as a lamb at heart.
He began to run his fingers through Yuuri's hair, embracing his soft, dark locks in the misty morning air. Whether it was because he thought Yuuri was asleep or what, Viktor did not know exactly what had possessed him to do what he did next, but the reason did not matter. He slowly brought his lips down and connected them with Yuuri's forehead, leaving a brief but gentle kiss right below his hairline. He was glad Yuuri was asleep, so he could not see the rose color tinting his cheeks.
But Yuuri was not asleep.....
He fluttered his eyes open and turned his face upward to lock his eyes with Viktor's, who had a look of shock and embarrassment evident in his eyes. Yet all his worries disappeared when Yuuri muttered two small words.
"You missed."
At first he was confused, but then realized what he meant as Yuuri brought Viktor's head back down to his own, hesitating and looking into the blue-eyed boy's eyes for permission. And in one swift movement they both leaned into each-other, connecting their lips in a sweet embrace.
And that was the reason why Yuuri never got annoyed at his insomnia ever again, because if it wasn't for his lack of sleep that morning, he may have never showed his true feelings to the one he cared for most in the world.
