A/N: This was an ANON prompt from a week or so back on Tumblr. Prompt #38- "That Can't Be Legal". Hope you enjoy my more comedic way of getting #Brettonio back together! Let me know what you think! Cheers, Nicole
It had been a few months since he'd made the most painful decision in his life. That decision haunted him daily. He wished he hadn't said those things. He wished he hadn't told her that she deserved better or that he couldn't give her what she deserved, but part of him knew that it was at least a partial truth. He wanted to give her everything she deserved and more, but Laura had made that next to impossible. However, since he worked with lawyers on a daily basis now, he'd gotten advice on how to get more time with the kids. He'd spoken to them and at the next custody hearing, they'd tell the judge who they wanted to live with. He had told them either way, he'd be happy, but he wanted them to make the choice, not have a choice forced upon them.
Diego had asked one of the biggest questions. "Dad... if... once we do tell the judge and everything is sorted out, can you and Sylvie get back together... I miss hanging out with her?"
Antonio had explained that he could try, but he made no guarantees.
He sighed as he went through the pile of files that was on his desk. He needed her back. Gaby had told him that she'd been going out a couple times and that some guy had been picking her the after the last couple shifts. Antonio didn't know why, but he was jealous. He wanted to be the one to pick her up. He wanted to be the one to wake up next to her in the morning. He wanted to be the one to give her his last name.
"What the hell are you mumbling about?" Lori Nagel asked, looking up from her own paperwork.
"What?" Antonio shook his head. "I wasn't saying anything."
"Uh huh... right." Lori laughed. "You sounded like you were having a conversation between yourself and the devil and angel on your shoulders."
"I was talking out loud?"
"Well, muttering... what's going on with you?"
Antonio dropped the pen to his desk and leaned back in his chair. "I'm an idiot."
"Okay, well... that doesn't narrow anything down." Lori laughed. She closed the file she was working on and walked to his desk. "How are you an idiot?"
"I let the best woman I could ever ask for walk out of my life... all because I couldn't get my psychotic ex-wife to back off."
"Antonio..." Lori treaded carefully. "Sylvie's a big girl... she can handle herself."
"I told her I couldn't give her what she deserved... I... I'm an idiot."
"Yeah... yeah, you are."
Antonio looked up at his partner, dumbfounded. "You're agreeing with me on this? Isn't this where my partner is supposed to support me and talk me down from this nonsense?"
