Seventeenth letter: ㅐ is commonly romanized as ae. It is the most solid e sound, like in the word ExcEpt. It's the same ae in tAEhyung (태형) or bAEkhyun (백현). You can learn to differentiate this strong e sound from the weak e sound (ㅔ) by looking at the structure of each symbol. ㅔ's little stick is outside, weak and unprotected like its weak sound, whilst ㅐ's sound is strong like the stick, which is between the two vertical lines.
