PSYCH! This is actually the beginning of the story. ENJOY and I love you for reading and caring!
It's Story Time!
I ran. I could feel the wind at my back as my feet pounded against the cold forest floor. He was going to catch me and it would be all over. I wouldn't be able to get back in time, they would all be dead before I got back.
I couldn't go back there, not to that monster of a person that dared to call himself a leader. A leader he was, a leader that lead through fear and hate. If you weren't afraid of him, you better gear up and prepare for the worst because that's how this works.
That's how he rules. If you don't fear him, you're his enemy. If you do fear him, you're someone that he considers to be in the way of something that was "great" in his eyes.
We were against that. We were leaders of a silent rebellion that had yet to take place. We were infecting his lands but it was going as smoother than my mission is right now.
Aster, where are you?
I breathed out a silent sigh of relief at the voice of my best friend echoing through my head, my heart pounding against my ribcage nearly drowning out his words.
Otherwise occupied, Tale. Where are the others?
He went quiet for a minute and I could feel myself getting worried. I had a lot to be worried about at this point. If I wasn't worried, I wouldn't be alive right now.
I slammed my back against one of the trees, taking in deep breaths to try and calm myself down a bit while I waited for my friend's answer. If that was the size of his army, we had no chance in saving our city.
They're alright. They're getting everyone else out of the city now. Where are you?
Getting repetitive, Tale.
"She went this way!"
The voice bellowing echoed through my bones and I could feel the fear in me return but not in the big wave that it had before. This time, the adrenaline that came with the fear came in a bigger wave than I've felt in my life and I could feel my blood start to pump faster.
Taking off again, I dodged the twisted trees and as I drew closer to the main road, I could smell the flames from their torches and the musk that the men gave off.
Aster?
Busy!
My feet were hurting more and more as they beat against the hard ground and I tried going through my memory to try and remember why we decided to do this in the middle of winter. It hadn't snowed in a couple of weeks but the ground felt like you could beat it over someone's head with it and it still wouldn't break.
I exploded onto the main road, seeing Talesin pacing back and forth next to our two black horses. "Get on and go!" I yelled at him and he jumped on his horse instantly, grabbing the reins of my horse as well and riding towards me as fast as he could.
I grabbed the side of my horse, jumping on top of it as the army started breaking through the forest as well, roaring with anger as they watched Talesin and I ride off into the distance. But don't think that didn't stop them from coming.
"What did you do?! You were supposed to be watching!" he yelled over the wind, both of us urging our horses to go faster as the woods flew by in a flash. "If I knew, we wouldn't be in this situation, would we?!" I barked back, sending him a death glare leaning forwards into my horse's neck and tried to keep the wind out of my face.
Talesin copied my movements and we started to move faster as the night, darkening over the road and the twisted woods around us, started to settle in and leave the cries of the army echoing through the darkness, mixing with the sound of the crows and the distant rumbling of thunder.
