"Again!" His voice boomed across the room. I read the passage again and heard the sound of the gun.
"Madeline! Focus!" I gritted my teeth as the shot sounds next to my foot. I cringe slightly and feel the cold shudder pass over my body.
The footsteps moved across the room and passed by me towards the whiskey glass on the tabletop. I watched as his Adam's apple moved up and down. He sighed and turned towards me with his dark blue eyes. I watched as he grabbed my forearm and I listened to the cracking of bone as he shattered my elbow.
"Again" he said lowly and dangerously. I read clearly and allowed the tears to fall.

Present

The birds chirped as I tried to open my eyes. They seemed glued together as I reached for my phone.
4:54am
I huffed and moved towards the door. Tiptoeing, I attempted to be as quiet as possible, however a light from outside made me curious. They were headlights. I moved towards it, only to see Alessandro in a black suit receiving an envelope from a man who looked to be twice his age. They spoke and shook hands before the man left. I struggled to find a hiding space as Alessandro walked towards the house.

I walked up the stairs and pretended to just be coming down. I even yawned.
The door shut and he looked up to face me.
" Up I see? There were rumors about that" he sneered then went into the living room.
I followed, naturally. He poured himself a glass of scotch and then one for me as I walked in. Gladly accepting I sat while he stood by the fireplace.

This would be my only chance to see what was in that envelope. I cleared my throat, getting his attention.
"You were outside?" I sipped my drink casually saying an observation.
"Yes. I had matters of my own to deal with." He turned back to the fire.
" tell me then what was that?" I had pushed it and watched his eyes turn cold and his demeanor change as he drank the final sip of his cup.
"Keep your nose out of my business, its very annoying" I scowled and watched him pour another glass.

After four or five glasses of silence I figured it was enough. I walked towards the door when I was stopped by an arm. Where I had four or five he seemed to have two entire bottles. Something had definitely been wrong, I chose to take this opportunity and question him further.

"Stay" I nodded and moved closer to him.
"What were you doing outside?" I asked moving closer until our lips hovered. He moved his hand down my cheek and grabbed my hair pulling back. I screeched and he hushed.
"Shush, I will tell you this once stay out of my business or it will cost you a steep price, Principessa"

He begins to walk towards the door when I throw a glass hitting him in the back of the head. He stiffens and fixes his suit. I watch, the intensity growing as he turns around.
Footsteps echoed throughout the room, smiling at me he moved towards the stairs.

"Was that glass I heard?" My father came into the room in a freshly pressed suit.

"Yes, your daughter has seemed to become quite clumsy these passed few days." I huff and watched as they shake hands. They laugh as a maid is ushered into the room to clean up the mess.

"If anyone asked it was his fault" I laugh and run up the stairs to get changed into my burgundy jeans with a leather jacket and black booties. Pushing Alessandro to the side with pleasure, I run into the fallen leaves. The hedges were being trimmed and the green leaves were sprawled everywhere. I walked to the gate and decided it was time to get to school.

I jumped and walked to town where I was planning to enroll into the university when I realized how upset father would be with me. Going into the nearest coffee shop I notice the other passerby moving away from me. I sighed and noticed how I must look to them. The rich daughter who was too spoiled to do anything by herself, how dare she enter our cafe with intentions of actually tipping the barista. I roll my eyes and look at the menu.
